Knowing your human design isn’t living it….

At some point you have to put the chart down and go live your life.

That’s actually why I created Deconditioning with Plant Allies. I wanted something that could bring Human Design out of the intellectual and into relationship, into the body, into actual lived experience.

Because knowing yourself on paper and actually having the courage to be yourself are two very different things.

There are some craggy old apple trees on this land that I I was delighted to find when I moved here.

I also had very low expectations on their ability to fruit since they’re so huge and so old and so untended and neglected.

Yet, every single one of these apple trees has produced fruit this year and this one in particular I have come to know that she’s a McIntosh tree, and her apples while few and small are just divine. I’ve eaten two so far while telling her how amazing she is.

I do think there is enough apples at the top of this tree that if I can somehow reach them, I could make a pie.

Perhaps these little apples are a return of the little pies baked and offfered in devotion at the land dedication with Nora Luce | Herbalist, Ceremonialist, Earth Educator Heena Patel | Somatic Coach, Buffy Owens | Conscious Movements, Tammy Zumbo Randy Kramer Pierce Lisa Meyers alyssa penge and Tara Rainstrom 🍎🌳

I didn’t create this work because I figured out how to decondition.

I created it because I’m still doing it.

Seven years into my Human Design experiment, I can see some of my conditioning immediately. Other pieces are so deeply woven into who I learned to be that I don’t recognize them until life puts me somewhere I can’t keep doing things the same way.

And this past year has done a lot of that.

There have been parts of myself I’ve had to rediscover again. Parts I’ve outgrown. Things I thought I had already worked through that apparently had another layer underneath them.

At some point, knowing my design stopped being enough.

I could look at my chart and understand why I was doing something. I could name the open center. I could see the pattern. And I could still be right there inside it.

The plants changed the way I understood that.

Not because they fixed my conditioning. They didn’t.

They gave me relationships outside of it.

I started noticing what happened when I sat with a plant that embodied something I was struggling to remember in myself. Motherwort and worth. Nettle and boundaries. Wild Rose and belonging. These are not just correspondences I pulled from a book; they are relationships that developed over time and began teaching me something my mind couldn’t quite grasp.

That became the seed of Herbalism by Design.

And “Deconditioning with Plant Allies” grew out of that seed.

It’s a small piece of a much larger body of work I’ve been building, questioning, living, and allowing to change me as I go.

Because I don’t think deconditioning is about becoming some perfectly deconditioned version of ourselves.

I think it’s about noticing.

Questioning.

And slowly recognizing the difference between what we learned to be and what has been quietly, stubbornly alive underneath it all.

The Plants have helped me remember.

Maybe that’s why I keep coming back to them.

Linden was my first beloved. She’s the most gentle plant ally who wraps her arms around you like a grandmother when you need a hug, when you’re nervous system and heart needs to be held.

she’s often referred to as the tree of loving remembrance. The first time I meditated with Linden tea was during the opening ceremony of School of the Sacred Wild. When met the plant spirit of beloved Linden. Inhaling her breath took mine away. Emotion caught in my throat, tears sprang to my eyes and I actually exclaimed out loud. “You smell like home you smell like Ireland!”

At that point in time I had never been to Ireland. I can only explain this as a quickening and an awakening of memory of blood and bone by this tree of loving remembrance.

Though I ultimately selected Wild Rose as the Foundational Plant Ally for the G Center, Linden was the first to hold my heart and to begin to gently awaken the conditioning around the G Center gates, and the voices of how we love ourselves quieted through conditioning of those gates.

I’m a seeker. I’ve always been interested in the space between knowing who we are and actually living as that person.

Human Design gave me an extraordinary map for that exploration. It gave language to patterns I could feel long before I could name them. And the deeper I went into
deconditioning, the more interested I became in what happens beyond understanding the map.

Because we are not separate from the living systems around us.

We are rhythmic beings. Seasonal beings. Relational beings. We adapt. We respond. We need periods of growth and dormancy. We belong to place. And we have spent a very long time living inside cultures that ask us to override much of that.

The Plants have never stopped speaking that language.

This is one of the places Herbalism by Design began for me: bringing what Human Design reveals about our energetic nature into relationship with beings who have been embodying rhythm, reciprocity, adaptation, sovereignty, relationship, and belonging for millennia.

And importantly, this isn’t about assigning an herb to a Human Design center and calling it done.

“The invitation is not to memorize correspondences but to enter into relationship. To listen. To notice. To discover how the wisdom of a Plant and the wisdom of your own body begin to recognize one another.”

There is something profoundly different about knowing that you need to honor your own rhythm and developing a relationship with a Plant who can teach you about rhythm.
Knowing where you abandon yourself and sitting with a Plant who knows something about boundaries.

Knowing where you have been conditioned to prove your worth and entering relationship with a Plant who asks nothing of you before you belong.

That is the territory I’m interested in.

Not adding more information to what we already know about ourselves so we can compartmentalize ourselves into the perfect label and box.

Deepening the relationship between what we know, how we live, and the living world we belong to.
