Most of the local Truckee airport noise you hear comes from JUST 3 planes. Skydiving and glider tow planes are the ones circling all day in the valley. For as low as $35 a drop they stay quite busy, so look up and see for yourself.

Ever wonder why planes fly over every neighborhood in truckee on arrival? It's because the Airport noise abatement website is confusing and basically asks them to.

The preferred noise abatement is actually supposed to have planes fly via runway 20, not 29 but the Airport website depicts runway 29 first on their site so unless a pilot really looks closely they would believe that runway 29 is the prescribed noise abatement flight path (even though runway 29 arrivals fly over nearly every home in the valley). Does the Airport mislead people on purpose, seems like the website could be much clearer.

Seems like there should be at least one Truckee neighborhood where you can live free of airport noise and go for a bike ...

Seems like there should be at least one Truckee neighborhood where you can live free of airport noise and go for a bike ride to recharge mentally. Glenshire is probably the closest thing to a quiet neighborhood being the furthest away but even when the glider Tows aren't flying the sky divers circle overhead on the weekends. #,truckeelove

Glider pilots enjoy silent soaring, the great irony is that their tow planes create more airport nuisance than any other entity in the valley with their continuous circling.

Many if not most soaring clubs have swapped to silent winch glider launches in locations where Tow plane noise is an issue and avoid using Tow planes altogether. Eliminating the tow plane noise could reduce summer noise nuisance by 50% or more in Truckee.

Light traffic day as normally there would be jets parked wing to wing. It's sad when the only way to reduce airport noi...

Light traffic day as normally there would be jets parked wing to wing. It's sad when the only way to reduce airport noise to the community on a weekend is via a natural disaster like the fires currently going on across the state.

It doesn't have to be this way, there are many easily attainable ways to improve the noise nuisance, but the airport has to want to cooperate...
