This post represents the second half of the Henry’s Fork Mayfly project for an upcoming June adventure. My previous post highlighted the PMD Mayfly, and this post highlights the Western Flav Mayfly that will also be seen, historically , on the Henry’s Fork during the month of June. Thirty years of experience on the River that has been enjoyed by my new client, David, allowed for us to be very specific in what we were looking for in the way of patterns that should be successful. David prefers using crippled and emerging patterns during the hatches to separate his offering from the numerous naturals that should be floating by in the film. I have learned over the years that in regards to a fly pattern, the most important aspect is to consider the Trout’s point of view and not the fisherman’s. Our patterns that come out of our vise here at Morrettflyfishing.com are our attempt of Impressionistic art, the blending of colors and shapes and materials that encourage the trout to believe in what he is seeing as the fly enters and drifts through his window of inspection. A lot of thought and time at the vise and streamside goes into this endeavor with a purpose in mind for each part of the fly from head to tail. All that being said, without a proper presentation from the flyfisherman, the best pattern in the world is laughed at by our finny friends. I am sure David and his boys know exactly what they’re doing, and I anticipate great success on their fishing adventure. We suggest the next time you go into a fly shop and move over to the fly bin section, turn the fly upside down and look at the bottom of the pattern. That’s what the Trout sees. If we can help you with any part of your fly fishing adventures, please reach out, if we don’t have a good suggestion we can usually turn you onto someone who will. Thank you again for your continued support and we wish you a Peace that surpasses all understanding flowing down from the Mountain. .
