Ripples of Grace Ripples of Grace is about discovering ways of pastorally caring for isolated folks and congregations!

Ripples of Grace is a page for individuals and community leaders who are struggling with how to spiritually care for those in their lives who are living with chronic, isolating illnesses such as dementia. We seek to provide connection, community, and support for caregivers who are isolated due to their caregiving responsibilities. We provide resources, training, and services for organizations as w

I am excited to share that I am adding grief companionship to my spiritual direction practice.

In addition to listening to your thoughts and questions about Spirit, we will also have open conversations about grief and how you may or may not be experiencing God's Presence with you in those times.

I am looking forward to listening with you! To schedule a time, contact me at [email protected]. I am available to meet via phone, ZOOM, and in person.🧡

I am so looking forward to re-opening my spiritual direction practice. Spiritual direction is an extensively personal way of approaching one's relationship wuth the holy. As a practitioner, we would sit together and explore your spiritual questions and I would assist you in ways of seeking the answers. It is a lot about listening--you to the Spirit and me to you. Let me know if you're interested in an exploratory session.

Sharing a thought:

Today's news continues to be disturbing. There's no way to know how the month will end...we're only 9 days into April. I am following Pope Leo's recommendation: daily, repeated prayers for God's influence and grace.

what a great idea!

You might be having a perfectly normal day when suddenly you remember something your person used to do, and you start laughing.

Maybe it was the way they snored loud enough to wake the neighbors.
Or the way they could never find something that was literally right in front of them.
Or that one thing they said they were going to fix…
that somehow stayed broken for the next ten years.

For me it was always leaving the utensil drawer open.
(I never really understood that?)

Sometimes those memories sneak up on us.
And for a moment, instead of tears, we smile.

Then we might catch ourselves thinking,
“Wait…am I allowed to laugh?”

The answer is YES.

The people we love were never just the serious moments.
They were the little habits, the quirks, the funny arguments,
and the everyday things that made life feel normal.

Grief reminds us how deeply we loved.

But those small, funny memories remind us how fully we lived with them.

If you feel comfortable, tell us something funny or quirky about the person you miss.

Sometimes the memories that make us smile…
are the ones that help our hearts heal.

"Sharing a Thought"

There is so much going on in the world in this moment in time that psychological exhaustion is always on the horizon.

So, my thought for the day is to take time away from social media, broadcast news, and other means of "seeing the world" just for 24 hours, a day.

Taking a day away, spending time in relative silence and stillness is soothing to our souls and, I believe, pleasing to our Creator.

Read some poetry.

Go outside and take a few deep breaths; if possible, go for a walk (take care!).

Write a note to a friend you haven't seen in a while, ruminate on those you love.

If you get all that done, or at some point while doing any of the above...TAKE A NAP. Love to you!

In a time when so much is crumbling, is burning, I don’t want to romanticize the ashes that come with destruction and devastation. As we approach Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent, I do want to keep asking what the Holy One can do with dust, and to keep looking for how I can be part of that. So many blessings to you, beloved ones, as the new season arrives.

BLESSING THE DUST

All those days
you felt like dust,
like dirt,
as if all you had to do
was turn your face
toward the wind
and be scattered
to the four corners

or swept away
by the smallest breath
as insubstantial—

did you not know
what the Holy One
can do with dust?

This is the day
we freely say
we are scorched.

This is the hour
we are marked
by what has made it
through the burning.

This is the moment
we ask for the blessing
that lives within
the ancient ashes,
that makes its home
inside the soil of
this sacred earth.

So let us be marked
not for sorrow.
And let us be marked
not for shame.
Let us be marked
not for false humility
or for thinking
we are less
than we are

but for claiming
what God can do
within the dust,
within the dirt,
within the stuff
of which the world
is made
and the stars that blaze
in our bones
and the galaxies that spiral
inside the smudge
we bear.

More awesome (to me) news is that I am in the process of studying with David Kessler through his Grief Educator Certification training course. He is profoundly knowledgeable about grief and how we as humans "do it" -- not always the same, not always in the most healthy way.

I am excited to be trained to offer this sort of grief support.
