We acknowledge and appreciate your kind words and support following the loss of Tom Grate. Tom was a loving father, a master mechanic, Ryder’s mentor, Phaedra’s Tommy, a proud papa, a valued friend, and an adored Uncle Tom to dozens of children he loved as his own.

Tom’s presence will be deeply missed throughout the construction industry. Your outreach speaks volumes about the impact he had on us all. There is a silence at our shop today. Things feel broken in ways all too familiar, in ways we know only time may heal.

Tom, you were so loved and so valued. Fly high, and keep Dom and Hannah close. Funeral information will be shared as it is received from the family. JW Civil will host a BBQ Celebration of Life for Tom and details will be shared this week. Tom would probably say “that’s a terrible idea” to which we’d flip him the double bird one last time.

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes when a water service is installed? The process involves installing tapping saddles, drilling into pressurized mains, and setting corporation stops to create reliable service connections. The work is learned primarily through hands-on experience in a heavy civil pipe-laying environment, where on-the-job training emphasizes industry specifications, proper installation techniques, and building a strong understanding of how water distribution systems operate.
