After a revamp of our landing page, I'm very excited to share this month's Culture at Work in Tucson podcast with Matt Sadowsky, President of Merit Foods of Arizona and Brett Rustand of Crest Insurance Group.
Merit has been described as the longest-running Tucson grocer that most haven’t ever heard of, which is ironic since the company has supplied food to probably every Tucsonan at some time via some of the best-known restauranteurs in the city, including eegee's, Lucky Wishbone, Jonathan's Cork, the Casino Del Sol Resort, and so on. Additionally, the company performed a massive, and essential pivot to support the community and the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona in the darkest days of the pandemic.
Join us as we discuss Matt's perspective on Tucson, pivoting a business in a challenging environment, and the value of a team - lessons that can benefit every business leader.
Thank you to Crest Insurance Group and Mark Bishop for making this episode possible. Enjoy!

I’ve worked alongside some truly remarkable Human Resources professionals for over 15 years, and I truly enjoyed this much discussion about rethinking workplace culture and its role as a profit engine for companies. As we discuss in the podcast, Shannon's experience as the standard-bearer of a technology startup, an entrepreneur and now nationwide consultant has demonstrated just how important your relationship to your employees is.

I’ve been involved in the Tour for several years as both a competitor and as fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Arizona.

As we discuss in the podcast, the event has had a massive effect on Southern Arizona throughout its nearly four decades of operation, raising over $100 million to benefit the community.

I'm extremely excited to share this month's podcast with Drew Kallestad and Ken Sloan of Agility Innovation Partners.

I’ve been involved in the insurance side of the healthcare system for over 15 years, and I truly enjoyed this month’s conversation about leveraging innovation and technology to improve access to healthcare. As we discuss in the podcast, our system locked the keys to controlling waste spending and improving access to care in the car, and as such created a feedback loop of spiraling costs, poor outcomes, and frustrated people on all sides.

Nice Healthcare, one of Agility’s key initiatives seeks to not just bend the cost curve, but fundamentally reimagine what a health system could look like if we started from the ground up with the goals of access to primary healthcare, ethical margins, and rapid-fire innovation to drive patient convenience and engagement. Join us for a great discussion about what healthcare can look like in Tucson with the right culture and technological innovation, right around the corner.

I'm very excited to share this month's podcast with Joey Rodgers and Soleste Lupu of Dancing in the Streets AZ. Truly enjoyed a fun, inspiring conversation with these two incredible Tucsonans who have built their studio as part of their mission to strengthen our community through a culture of inclusion and challenging the status quo.

Founded in 2008 with a small sum of wedding gift money their studio is located in South Tucson: a one-square-mile community with a strong heritage but a struggle with high crime rates and poverty. The studio uses the excitement and discipline of ballet to guide children in developing positive life skills, breaking down cultural barriers and enriching artistic experience.

I'm very excited to share this month's Culture at Work in Tucson podcast with my good friend Wade Hamstra, Vice President and Owner of Hamstra Heating & Cooling. A quintessential story of American entrepreneurship, the father-and-sons venture was the product of a small bank loan, two pickup trucks, two pieces of shop equipment, and materials for their first job.

As the Great Recession of 2008-09 hit Arizona, construction businesses like Hamstra were hit hard and faced with many difficult choices. In this month's interview, we discuss the company's big pivot into the residential consumer market, and how a steadfast commitment to taking care of the HHC team made it possible to provide a level of customer service that redefined the business in a very competitive industry. Truly a great conversation and a great company.
