Tucson Environmental Services

Tucson Environmental Services Go to https://www.tucsonaz.gov/environmental-services for more. Tucson recycles shredded paper, from your home or office.

The Mission of the Environmental Services Department is to promote a healthy Tucson community by providing innovative and effective waste management and environmental protection services. Did you know that virtually all magazines, catalogs and mail — including envelopes with plastic windows — can be recycled? When you purchase bottled water to take with you, remember to bring it back home and toss

it in your blue barrel. Just remember to put it in a clear plastic bag with a tie, so we can see what’s inside. We’ll recycle the paper and throw away the plastic bag, which reminds us...

Remember, plastic grocery and garbage bags CANNOT be recycled in your blue barrel — EVER! Take them to your local grocery store instead. See the newest list of recyclables here: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/recycle

Behind every cleanup is a team working hard to keep Tucson's public spaces clean and accessible for everyone.

In 2025, City of Tucson Environmental Services crews have cleaned up more than 2,200 encampment and illegal dumping sites throughout our community. This work is physically demanding and often performed in challenging conditions.

While homelessness remains a complex issue for our city we know that it requires compassion and community-wide solutions, we are proud of the employees who help restore public spaces, remove hazards, and support the health and safety of our neighborhoods.

Thank you to our dedicated crews for their service. 💚

🚛 Holiday Reminder from City of Tucson Environmental Services

While many waste and recycling providers pause service on holidays, our Environmental Services team and operators made the decision to pause collection on only THREE holidays in the year. We will continue collection service through the Memorial Day holiday and others to help keep Tucson clean and avoid delays for residents.

🚛 That means if your collection day fell on Memorial Day, your trash and recycling were still picked up as scheduled.

We know some residents may have missed collection because they expected a delay, so we want to help spread the word moving forward, from now on, City of Tucson Environmental Services will only observe three collection holidays each year.

❌ Collection will only pause for:
• Thanksgiving Day
• Christmas Day
• New Year’s Day

Thank you to our operators and collection teams who continue serving Tucson through the heat, holidays, and early mornings to keep our community clean every day. 💙♻️
