I was informed earlier, by someone who I had been connected with for the last few years, someone I considered a friend (and who had occasionally been more), that he "had to remove me because he didn't realize I was such an angry feminist". I was taken aback, and honestly, hurt, because while I loathe the patriarchal system that continues to treat women, especially those of us who are women of color, as sub-citizens: I love men individually and healthy masculinity. Advocating for, and fighting for women who are marginalized is literally what one of my businesses does.
I'm actually a woman who is super peaceful and loves life and the people I have in my life. I love to laugh, to joke, to dance, to work hard. I'm sarcastic and sassy and silly. I'm also both formally educated and street smart.
Fighting for equality and equity: things like bodily autonomy and equal pay for equal work, better treatment of DV and SA victims doesn't make a woman "an angry feminist". If things like women being treated as property, r**e victims being blamed for being r**ed, women being blamed for abusive men, and children being taught these same values doesn't make YOU want to stand up and fight... Maybe you aren't angry enough.

Welcome to today's PSA, brought to you by a situation I see many clients face in their workplace. As a former member of management (my first degree) in fields ranging from hotel to restaurant to retail, I learned a few things. So here you go.

There are people who feel the need to take charge without actually being in a position of authority in a team...They like to call themselves "motivators".

BUT:

You don't motivate people by discouraging them, treating them like they are inept and in need of your constant instructions, bossing them around without so much as a "please", or making them want to push you down some stairs.

These behaviours don't make you a "team player", a "shift leader", or a "motivator". They make you an as***le.

*If you balk at this, then it's definitely you engaging in these behaviours. Do better.

PSA: If you keep your child from talking to.... Or worse yet... Punish your child for talking to... Their other parent... You're a raging douchecanoe and have no business being a parent.

As we move toward the new moon, and the new season, here's a great little exercise!
TOXIC EMOTIONAL TIES

Unresolved feelings with people from the past generate toxic emotional ties that keep us connected to them emotionally and energetically. These ties act as true internal "us" that do not allow our life to flow naturally and block the flow of new and better experiences.

It is necessary to carry out an emotional cleansing and check which people we are still connected to. Sorrow, resentment, guilt, attachment, disappointment, illusion are some of the feelings that create and reinforce these bonds. The person is no longer there, but continues to affect your emotions, influencing your decisions, even if unconsciously.

Do an exercise: Stay silent for a while, relax and ask your emotional: What people from the past am I still connected to? Let your mind show you.
Imagine then that there is a cord that connects these people to you. Visualize him tying you to them. Then affirm:

“At this moment I declare that I am breaking all the toxic and negative ties that bind me to people from the past (visualize that you have golden scissors in your hand and see yourself cutting all ties). I let go of all those who were once in my life, but who are meaningless today. I let go of all guilt, hurt, resentment or wrongdoing that bound me to them. I value the past and the lessons I've learned, but I don't need to keep living with the past. I am breaking free of that influence and opening myself up to better people and situations.” It's done.
