Summer Survival Guide for Mommas ☀️
Summer always sounds like a good idea until you realize it requires more of everything from you… more time, more money, more energy.
So instead of getting halfway through June and feeling like “what is going on,” this is how I would go into it:
M — Manage a Summer Budget
Summer comes with its own set of expenses whether you plan for them or not. Camps, food, random outings, “can we go here” every other day… it adds up quickly. I would go ahead and give summer its own budget so you’re not constantly trying to catch up with your money.
O — Outsource What You Can
You do not have to do everything yourself and outsourcing doesn’t always mean paying for help.
This can look like your kids having real responsibilities. Not “helping” but actually doing things. Making their own plates, cleaning up after themselves, helping with laundry, even being responsible for certain daily tasks. If you have a partner, same thing. This is a shared household, not a one-woman operation.
M — Make Time for Yourself
This is the one that gets pushed to the bottom, and then you’re exhausted and irritated by week three.
Making time for yourself doesn’t have to be a full spa day. It can be you going to get a coffee alone and sitting in your car in peace. It can be taking a walk by yourself after dinner. It can be locking your bathroom door for 20 minutes and doing your full shower routine without anybody calling your name. The point is you need something in your day that is just yours.
M — Maximize What’s Around You
Everything does not have to cost money. I promise.
Libraries, splash pads, parks, free community events… there are so many things available that don’t require you to swipe your card every time your kids say they’re bored. A good summer does not have to be an expensive one.
A — Arrange Support
You are not meant to figure all of this out by yourself.
This can look like coordinating with other moms, trading off days, carpooling, or even just having someone you can call when you need a break. Support doesn’t always show up how we want it, but you can build something that makes things easier for you.
