But recurring defects, excessive machining, material loss, inconsistent results, or difficulty producing cylindrical parts can be reasons to evaluate another process.

A technically suitable part still needs a business case.

A component may be well suited to centrifugal casting from a process standpoint, but that does not automatically mean purchasing equipment is financially justified.

Production volume is an important part of the calculation because equipment costs are spread across the castings produced over the life of the machine.

But volume should not be evaluated alone.

Material yield, scrap rates, machining requirements, labor, current production costs, and recurring quality issues can all affect the economics of moving to centrifugal casting.

The real question is not simply whether a part can be centrifugally cast.
It is whether the process can provide a practical production advantage for that specific application.

The casting result is shaped before the metal fully solidifies.

In centrifugal casting, consistency depends on more than rotational speed. Mould condition, proper preheating, pouring temperature, and controlled cooling all influence how the metal flows and solidifies.

When these process variables are controlled, foundries can achieve more repeatable casting quality and reduce avoidable defects.

Less machining may be possible. Zero machining should not be assumed.

Centrifugal casting can help improve material utilization and, in suitable applications, reduce the amount of excess material that must be removed during finishing.

But machining is still often part of the process.

Final dimensions, surface requirements, mating surfaces, bores, faces, and other features may still require machining. The appropriate machining allowance depends on the casting geometry, material, size, tolerances, and final application.

That is why machining allowance should be considered as part of the complete casting process—not treated as a single number that applies to every part.

Not every centrifugal casting application is best suited for a horizontal setup. The geometry should help decide.

CCMCO vertical centrifugal casting machines may be considered when the part geometry and process requirements are better suited to a vertical orientation.

Rings, bushings, sleeves, short cylindrical components, and parts with a larger diameter relative to their length are examples where a vertical setup may be considered.

Choosing between horizontal and vertical centrifugal casting should not start with the machine. It should start with the part you need to produce and its process requirements.

The material affects more than the pour temperature.

When evaluating a part for centrifugal casting, material and alloy selection can influence several parts of the process—not simply how hot the metal needs to be.
