isn't the same thing as caries, and treating it like caries can mean missing out on identifying the real cause.

Dental erosion is the chemical dissolution of tooth structure by acids that bacteria did not produce, and it is increasingly common among middle-aged and older adults.

In this free, 1-credit CE webinar, Nathaniel Lawson will explore the causes, diagnosis, and evidence-based management of dental erosion, including how to distinguish it from caries, dietary and intrinsic risk factors, and effective preventive strategies to protect tooth structure.

Attendees will learn why a beverage's buffering capacity can predict how erosive it is better than its pH can, and practical management tools such as chairside saliva testing, stannous fluoride dentifrices, and counseling on diet and toothbrushing.

When dentists pursue practice growth, it usually means adding something: more marketing, more patients, more services, more technology.

But what if the greatest opportunity isn’t in what we add, but in what we remove? 🤔

Every practice has friction, often in places we don’t immediately recognize. Individually, these obstacles seem small. Together, they can quietly place a ceiling on a practice’s potential.

This month, Dental Economics spotlights practice growth and looks at what may be standing between where you are and where you want to go.

For many dental practices, the biggest financial problem is not production. It is pricing power.

Owners can improve case acceptance, add operatories, extend hours, and produce more dentistry. But if a large share of the patient base is governed by PPO contracts, one constraint remains: the practice does not fully control what it is paid.

This article looks at how to find a smart path to recurring revenue and less PPO dependence.

What does it really mean to become “known” in dentistry? Most of us see the highlight reel: the standing ovations, keynote presentations, podcasts, brand partnerships, social media, and travel. But what happens behind the scenes once your name becomes your brand?

This week on Dentistry Unmasked, Pam sits down with Irene Iancu for an unfiltered conversation about building a public career in dentistry. From landing those first speaking opportunities to navigating conference politics, industry relationships, and the ever-evolving roles of educator, influencer, creator, and key opinion leader, Irene shares the realities that few people talk about.

How do you bring up esthetics with a patient who hasn't mentioned it? 🦷

Dr. Kathryn DeWood shares how she handles white spot lesions. She asks permission first, uses clinical photos, sets honest expectations, and starts with the most conservative option.

Thirty-five years into dentistry, Dr. Abdi Sameni isn’t thinking much about slowing down. He’s still asking what he can learn next.

Sameni joins Drs. Pam Maragliano and Brian Nový for a wide-ranging conversation about what happens when dentists remain students of their profession. They explore why some of the most interesting dental education is happening outside the usual circles, how communities such as bioemulation connect clinicians around the world, and why mentorship can change the trajectory of a career.

But the conversation also gets clinical: Is biomimetic dentistry always the right answer? Are dentists intervening too late—or sometimes doing too much? Sameni makes the case for respecting the tooth at every stage of life, detecting disease before conventional treatment becomes necessary, and choosing treatment for the patient in front of you rather than following a clinical ideology.
