AMERICA AND MOST BUSINESSES ON THE VERGE OF LOSING DRIVERS.
Thousands of truck drivers are suddenly facing the loss of their CDL licenses, putting their livelihoods at risk.
State officials say the move comes under pressure from the federal government, which is requiring the DMV to revoke approximately 13,000 commercial driver’s licenses issued to individuals without permanent legal status in the United States.
The situation began after a federal audit revealed that some licenses remained active even after drivers’ work authorizations had expired. In response, regulators are now stepping in to correct what they describe as a compliance issue.
As a result, thousands of drivers may temporarily lose their ability to work while courts and government agencies work through the legal and regulatory challenges.
Officials have also warned that failure to act could cost the state millions of dollars in federal highway funding.
For many affected drivers, even a short suspension could mean an immediate and devastating loss of income.
