Congratulations, Captain Reyerson!

Today, Cade Reyerson was officially promoted from Lieutenant to the rank of Captain. District Chief Chad Miller presented Captain Reyerson with his new red helmet, badge and bugles, marking this important milestone in his career.

Captain Reyerson previously served as the Lieutenant on Engine 24, B Platoon. He will soon take command as Captain of Rescue 4.

Please join us in congratulating Captain Reyerson on this well deserved promotion and recognizing his hard work, dedication and sacrifice to the Tulsa Fire Department and the citizens we serve.

Today the cadets and alternates of upcoming Academy Class 114 participated in their prerequisite ladder climb. They climb over 100 feet high at a 70-degree angle to the top of the ladder, and extend their arms out to the sides before receiving a thumbs-up signal indicating completion. After the ladder climb the group participated in a pre-academy workout to help them gauge their fitness and ensure that they are prepared when the class begins next month. Class 114 will have 22 cadets.

Please join us in congratulating Lieutenant Justin Embrey on his well earned promotion!

Officially promoted today, Lieutenant Embrey was presented his badge, helmet shield and bugles by District Chief Ricky Powell, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his career with the Tulsa Fire Department.

Previously assigned to Ladder 31, Lieutenant Embrey will now begin his leadership role at Station 66 on Engine 66.

Promotions in the fire service are earned through years of hard work, sacrifice, dedication and a willingness to accept the responsibility that comes with leading others. We are proud of Lieutenant Embrey and look forward to seeing the impact he will make in his new role.

CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE

At approximately 1:42 p.m. today, Tulsa firefighters responded to a house fire near East 21st Street and South Darlington Avenue after neighbors saw flames and smoke and called 911.

The resident safely escaped after hearing the smoke alarm and discovering the fire. Firefighters quickly attacked the fire, conducted a primary search and located the family dog inside. No one was injured, and the resident and both pets are safe.

This fire is an important reminder of why we tell everyone to “Close Before You Doze.”

The fire started in one room next to another room with the bedroom door closed. The difference is striking. The room behind the closed door sustained virtually no damage, other than the exterior portion of the door.

A closed door can slow the spread of fire, heat and toxic smoke, giving you valuable additional time to escape and increasing your chances of survival.

Close your bedroom doors before you go to sleep. Make sure your smoke alarms are working. And when the alarm sounds, get out and stay out.

Fire investigators are on scene working to determine the cause of the fire.

Responding companies included Engine 22, Engine 7, Engine 15 and Ladder 7.

This week, members of the Tulsa Fire Department attended the Oklahoma Swiftwater Conference hosted by Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training.

Captain Matt Bell and Lieutenant Ryan Stephens served as instructors, while Lieutenant Burl Nicholson and Firefighter Trey Reynolds participated as students during the week-long conference.

Over five days, participants trained with expert instructors from across the country in challenging rotations covering throw bags, rope systems, paddling, swimming, boat operations and maintenance, pinned-victim rescue scenarios, and techniques for removing victims from dangerous situations.

And here’s a fun fact: The team also learned how to harness and rescue animals from the water, including horses!

Training like this helps ensure our firefighters and members of Oklahoma Task Force 1 are prepared for the complex water rescue emergencies they may face.

Two Tulsa firefighters were trapped inside this warehouse near 4th and Owasso, CJ Maclin of 2 News reports. Tulsa Fire Department said both firefighters are expected to be okay and are at a hospital being treated for minor injuries. Around 55-60 firefighters responded to the fire that started at around 4:30 this morning. TFD is continuing to investigate what caused the fire.

OK-TF1-Tulsa’s Red Team spent today training at Turkey Mountain, putting their search and rescue skills to work.

Our team trains for the calls that happen right here at home, as well as deployments across Oklahoma with the state task force. Today’s exercise included a wide-area search, K9 teams and a technical rope rescue to safely reach and remove a patient.

The goal is simple: train hard, work together and be ready when the call comes.
