In honor of Black History month, we'd like to shine a light on men and women of great influence when it comes to social justice and the energy space. Today, we celebrate Ms. Hazel O'Leary. Her career began as Assistant County Prosecutor in New Jersey after obtaining her JD Degree from Rutgers University of Law in 1966. She went on to serve as assistant administrator of the Federal Energy Commission in the Department of Energy under the Carter Administration. In 1993, she became the first woman and first black citizen to serve as the US Secretary of Energy. Fighting for legislation to combat climate change, Ms. O'Leary influenced a handful of enacted policies that set a new precedent for the US Energy sector. Ms. O'Leary, thank you for your dedication renewable energy and too rising above the noise to make a difference in the lives of those you created a path for.

Every year on the third Monday of January, we stand in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the immortal civil rights activist who set a precedent of peace and justice for millennia to come.
