At approximately 7 AM Tye Fire was dispatched to a structure fire. Unfortunately the house was a total loss, but everyone made it out safely. And no injuries were reported.  We would like to thank all of our mutual aid departments for all their help. Summer may officially be a few days away, but the temperatures didn't get that memo! ☀️🔥

With the heat on the rise, remember these important safety tips:

💧 Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water throughout the day.
👒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and use sunscreen.
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🚗 Never leave children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a parked vehicle.
⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms become severe.

Stay safe, stay cool, and look out for your family, friends, and neighbors as we head into another Texas summer!

Was a great training this evening, even had a neighboring department ( Hamby Fire Rescue ) join us. With all the new traffic coming into Abilene and surrounding areas we must be ready and prepared for when the tones drop. Safe travels to all. And a BIG THANK YOU TO Abilene Wrecker Service for allowing us to come and train.

Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3 due to forecasted conditions, including high temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation, that are contributing to an elevated fire risk, along with increased resource commitments for prepositioning.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.

We grieve alongside those who served beside him, loved him, and called him family. The fire service is more than a job — it is a brotherhood and sisterhood built on sacrifice, courage, and unwavering dedication to others.

We ask the community to keep both men's family, friends, and fellow firefighters close in your hearts during this incredibly difficult time.

With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the death of Abilene Firefighter - Hunter Patterson. FF Patterson and his friend Brett Underwood, were involved in an off-duty, fatal vehicle accident early this morning, Friday, May 15, 2026. Both men passed away.

This is a devastating loss for Hunter’s family and our department. Hunter was a respected and beloved member of the AFD for 11 years. Hunter leaves behind his wife and children, as well as numerous other family members and friends. The loss of both men has greatly impacted members of our department. We ask that our wonderful community keep both families in their thoughts and prayers, while also respecting their privacy at this difficult time.

We would like to introduce the newest addition to our fleet. Command 1 was generously provided by Taylor County and will serve as a on-scene command vehicle and multi-propose utility truck. We would like to thank Sheriff Bishop, Judge Crowley and the Commissioners for the opportunity to acquire this truck.
