CELTIC CHRISTIANITY & DRUIDRY
Kimberlie Currier
WHAT IS TRUE CELTIC SPIRITUALITY or CELTIC CHRISTIANITY?
Celtic spirituality is a term that’s wide enough to cover many perspectives beneath its shelter, even while it means different things to different people. For some it’s an ancient form of Christianity, one that’s particularly appealing to modern followers of Jesus who want a faith that focuses on justice, tolerance, equality for all people, creativity, and a love of nature. For others, Celtic spirituality is a way to connect with the ancient perspective on the world, one that celebrates the earth and her seasons, finding deep spiritual meaning in land and sea and air.
The true ancient perspective searches out the truth and meaning in the ancient versions of Scripture, as the Bible tells us the Bereans did, without the mistranslations of the Dark and Modern Ages, and without the man-made doctrines that pervade the modern Bible and Christian denominations - things like worshipping God on Their seventh-day Sabbath, as St. Patrick did. Things like seeing the nature of God as a God of love and not as a judge. Things like the true state of the dead, which can really open you up to Satan's poison and to many misunderstandings of God if you don't understand what God's Word really teaches.
People who practice true Celtic spirituality not only delight in digging out the treasures of Scripture that shine the light of truth on God's words and bring us to a true understanding of the nature of our God of love, but they also delight in God's Creation, God's second book to us.
Inspired writing tells us:
Upon all created things is seen the impress of the Deity. Nature testifies of God. (EGW, Education).
Next to the Bible, nature is to be our great lesson book. (EGW, Child Guidance).
True Celtic Christians don't limit themselves to the doctrines of the church of the Dark Ages but search for God as They truly are, leaning, like the beloved disciple John, on the chest of Jesus, "listening for the heartbeat of God" (J. Philip Newell).
Like Brother Lawrence, true practitioners of Celtic spirituality are aware of the presence of God in every minute of every day (The Practice of the Presence of God).
There are a lot of groups out there that claim Celtic Christianity or spirituality. But they simply follow the twisted mandates of the church of the Dark Ages, the church that changed God's holy day of worship, who made God look like a punishing tyrant, the same church that changed the Bible to show condemnation of people like witches and who manipulated pagan myths like "hell" in order to scare people into the church and into paying them a lot of money. Condemnation is not from God and was not the path that our ancient ancestors followed. And if it is not from God it can only be from God's enemy and his demonic forces.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. ~ Paul, Romans 8:1.
So beware of groups who claim to be Celtic Christian or who claim to follow Celtic spirituality but who blindly follow the leading of the church of the Dark Ages and man-made (made-up) doctrines, ignoring the truths in the Bible that lead us to a closer walk with our God of love, and ignoring the ancient practices and beliefs of our true Biblical and Celtic ancestors.
