We love growing hostas in containers, but they do require a bit of extra care. This fall, you should take a few steps to ensure your hostas thrive this winter and next spring:

🪴Make sure your containers have proper drainage so they don't get water-logged and freeze solid.
🌱Wait until the plants go dormant and then trim the dead leaves back to 1 to 2 inches tall.
🪴Move containers to a sheltered location, placing them in an unheated garage or shed or against a the house.
🌱Avoid fertilizing and reduce watering to the bare minimum.

Do you have hostas in containers? What's your winter protocol?

Meet Wu-La-La💞✨

If you like big hostas, you're probably familiar with the queen, H. Empress Wu. Growing 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide, this sport still offers Empress Wu's impressive size paired with stunning variegation. Wu-La-La has blue-green leaves with contrasting apple-green margins.

🪴Like 'Empress Wu', this hosta will take about 5 years to reach full maturity and size. Once you get there, the size of this plant will definitely be a conversation starter!

We still have a few for fall planting: https://pineforestgardens.com/wu-la-la-pp31309-cpbraf-shadowland-collection-48tall-x-72-wide/

One of the best things about hostas is that they're easy to share!🥰

Usually we recommend dividing them in spring, but some gardeners like to divide perennials in fall. If you're dividing hostas this season be sure to mulch them in with several inches of straw, pine needles, or other natural mulch.

🍂Mulch helps prevent the freeze and thaw cycle of winter heaving the soil and damaging young roots.
