A little late getting this post out, but Fire Prevention Week is here! 🔥 We will be visiting the kids at the school on Friday!

Starting today, I’m challenging you parents to tackle Topic #1: Find your escape routes and run a fire drill!

Take a few minutes to walk through your home with your family. Find at least two ways out of every room, make sure everyone knows where to go, and choose a safe meeting spot outside.

Then—practice it! 🚒🔥

You never know when those few minutes of preparation could save a life.

🏅 Years of Service Awards

This year, we had the honor of recognizing six of our dedicated volunteers for their years of service to Underwood Volunteer Fire & Rescue:

We are incredibly proud of all of our volunteers and the time, dedication, and commitment each of you gives to our department and our community. Your service doesn’t go unnoticed, and we are truly grateful for every call, every training, and every hour you give.

Congratulations to all of our service award recipients, and thank you for everything you do! ❤️🚒

And a special congratulations to Chief Jesse Carr on 15 years of service, including 8 years as our Chief! We’re incredibly proud to have you leading our department and grateful for your dedication to our volunteers and our community!

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — We Remember.

25 years later, we still remember the 2,977 lives lost that day and the countless families whose lives were forever changed.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and other first responders who ran toward danger while others were running away. They answered the call without knowing what waited for them, and many never made it home.

We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the love they had for the people they were trying to save.

Today, we also remember the families, friends, and fellow first responders who have carried those memories for 25 years. Their stories, their sacrifices, and their legacy continue to live on.

As firefighters, we are reminded that every call matters, every life matters, and behind every set of turnout gear is a person with someone waiting for them to come home.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🚒

We would like to give a huge, heartfelt thank you to the community of Underwood!

Because of everyone who donated baked goods, purchased from the bake sale, and simply showed up to support the cause, we were able to give the Eslinger family a sizable donation.

It’s truly amazing to see our community come together and support our own when they need it most. We are incredibly grateful for every person who played a part in making this possible.

Thank you, Underwood, for showing once again what an amazing community we have! 🚒❤️

I think it’s safe to say Fun with Firefighters was a HUGE hit again this year! 🚒💦🥳

Our foam pit was once again full of smiles, giggles, and some very happy kids! And those who won prizes looked pretty happy too! 🎉

We also want to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who baked and donated to our bake sale today. ❤️ Almost everything sold, and we couldn’t have done it without all of you!

And, as always, a special thank you to all of our department members who chose to volunteer their time to help make this event happen. It takes a lot of people behind the scenes to pull something like this off, and we appreciate each and every one of you more than you know. ❤️

Thank you to our amazing community for continuing to show up and support us. We had a blast with all of you and can’t wait to do it all again next year! 🚒🔥

The bakers in our lives have been VERY busy this week! 🧁🍪

A huge thank you to Angie and Cassie for all the time, effort, and love you’ve poured into baking for tomorrow’s event. We even had an extra set of tiny helping hands—Finn stepped up as our official Quality Control Supervisor (and by “quality control,” we mean making sure everything tasted delicious! 😉).

Don’t forget to join us tomorrow for our Annual Fun with Firefighters! We’ll have our bake sale, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Eslinger family as they recover from the loss of their home.

Come hungry, bring the family, and help us support a great cause. We can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow! 🚒❤️🧁

🔥🌫️ Mother Nature is being a little dramatic today… 🌫️🔥

Yes, it’s smoky.
Yes, the air quality is less than fabulous.
And NO — there are currently no fires in our area that we are aware of! 🚒

🔥 McLean County is currently in MODERATE fire danger, while some of our neighboring counties are under Red Flag Warnings.

So while we’re not in the danger zone just yet, please stay safe with anything that sparks, burns, or smolders. 🔥

🌫️ With the poor air quality, take it easy outside—especially kids, older adults, and anyone sensitive to smoke.

Basically…
Don’t start fires. Don’t breathe more smoke than you have to. And please don’t give us a reason to come visit you with the big red trucks. 😂🚒
