Movement & Justification

There’s no doubt that fire showing is a good thing. It simplifies so much for ALL companies operating. Fire being the objective not the obstacle, we now know it’s exact location and can now prioritize our movement.

This being said, fire meeting us at front door even better. HOWEVER the extreme word of caution is the ensure we rule out a basement fire! This can be a quick look through the windows, or quick access to the rear and seeing if there’s a Bilco door or walk out door. This has to be communicated to the hose team.

Movement.

The simplicity in movement is reliant on those on that house line factoring their path towards the objective. Getting that hose line flaked out is one thing but getting it flaked out so it moves in the direction of travel is another.

It’s imperative to take the literal seconds to endure that line will freely move towards the entry point and when is charged it’s will be kink free.

Reparation in training is a way to build memory when there’s a real incident.

Attention To Detail.

The effective Engine Company is detail oriented & masters at the little things. Why? One cut corner and deployment has now become complicated.

Hose is an interesting tool, for one it’s cylindrical and had to be gripped by us to move and operate. However it changes to that shape from flat upon deployment, then being changed. It’s up to us to ensure that the process of deployment and operation are as smooth and seem less as possible. All the time we take to train on deployment & operating; we should spend equal the time ensure that hose is packed and ready to go.

Perfection should be the only option. So when it’s needed it deployed is the most effective fashion. Take the time to do it right!

Reading A Fire Ground.

The maximum effort put forth on a fire ground is truly a site to see when there’s a positive outcome. There’s many tasks that need to be accomplished, and accomplished simultaneously. That being said, it’s very easy to be laser focused on our assigned task and not the big picture. I was always taught to only worry about my assignment, but remember the overall reason why we’re there……. Water on the fire.

Our coexistence while operating can often prove tough, however we ALL need to support that hose lines movement to the seat. So any obstacle, even ones placed by us need to be moved or adjusted to ensure proper movement.

Often people who do not arrive on an Engine fail to consider their movement while operating. It’s ok, this can be fixed in training by learning to coexist and then assist each other!

Our hearts are with Bryce’s family, friends, and the entire A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co. family during this incredibly difficult time.

Bryce’s love for the fire service and his bright spirit will not be forgotten.

It is with profound sadness that A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co. announces the passing of our Junior Firefighter, Bryce Kaufmann

Bryce was a junior at Girard High School and a deeply valued member of our fire department family. He will forever be remembered for his ability to make everyone smile. His entire face—and truly his whole being—would light up whenever he heard the words, “GEAR UP!”

Bryce took great pride in being a Junior Firefighter, especially when it came to his bunker gear. Even with a broken zipper, he wanted absolutely nothing to do with any suggestion that it should be replaced. That gear was his, and he was not ready to part with it.

Along with his profound passion for learning firefighting skills, Bryce will also be remembered for his unforgettable love of root b**r, peanuts, and milkshakes. These special little things were simply part of what made Bryce uniquely Bryce.

Bryce’s enthusiasm, humor, dedication, and bright spirit touched everyone around him. His time with us was far too short, but the impact he made will remain within our department forever.

Our deepest condolences go out to Bryce’s family, friends, classmates, fellow Junior Firefighters, and everyone whose life was made brighter by knowing him.

Rest easy, Bryce. You will always be part of the A.F. Dobler Hose & Ladder Co. family, and whenever we hear “GEAR UP,” we will think of you.
