How it all began:
Floyd Hammer and Kathy Hamilton Hammer founded The Outreach Program in 2004 to provide safe water, food medical care and education to the world’s most vulnerable. Kathy’s words express it best, “When Floyd and I went to Nkungi Village in 2003, we could see several derelict projects left by missionaries from the past. I thought “these were very important, why didn’t they last, why weren’t they sustainable? I didn’t want our work to be in vain. I wanted to do what the villagers needed. In early 2005 we took our small group of volunteers to meet with the Village Elders and Leaders to ask them what they needed to make their village sustainable. Every village’s list was the same – clean water, food, medical care, and education. These were the cornerstones we used to help build the villages. They are referred to as the Four Promises. By following this guide, the whole village flourished, everyone was lifted up, not just a single family.”
