Local 5038 is proud to celebrate the retirement of longstanding member Brandon Coplen. Words cannot describe the impact Brandon Coplen had on Union Fire Protection District and Local 5038. His contributions over his 20+ year career have helped foster the growth, professionalism, and brotherhood in the department.

We are grateful for the mentorship, leadership, and friendship he brought to the firehouse every shift. He has helped train a new generation of firefighters that will carry on his legacy.

His service to Union and Boone County has impacted countless lives and made a lasting difference on the community.

We hope you have a wonderful retirement! Enjoy all the family time and the nights and weekends off!

Congratulations to Firefighter/Paramedic Will Mason, Paramedic Phylicia Scothorn, and Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Riddle!!

Congrats to Union Fire Protection District members for their quickest Door to Needle time for June 2026 for all St. Elizabeth Healthcare systems. This recognition is a partnership between AHA, EMS systems and St Elizabeth Healthcare for delivery of clot busting medicine in cases of occlusive stroke. Rapid recognition of stroke and relay of information via Pulsara to EDs clears the path for quick CT and rapid delivery of TNK improving patient outcomes, which is the ultimate goal.

Please help us in congratulating Firefighter/Paramedic Will Mason on his successful completion of Paramedic School!

Not only did Will complete paramedic school, but he also maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning a Certificate of Academic Excellence. Over the last year, Will has devoted countless hours to completing prerequisites, classroom instruction, clinical rotations, and field training. To say we are proud is truly an understatement.

Will has already taken and successfully passed the National Registry of EMT-Paramedic exam and is currently awaiting his Kentucky paramedic license so he can officially begin practicing as a paramedic.

Congratulations, Firefighter/Paramedic Will Mason! Your hard work, dedication, and commitment to the profession have truly paid off.

We would also like to recognize Firefighter/Paramedic Andrew Kannady for receiving the Field Preceptor Award. Firefighter/Paramedic Kannady is an outstanding preceptor who genuinely enjoys instructing and mentoring new EMTs and Paramedics. His dedication to teaching and helping others grow makes him a tremendous asset to our department.
