Planning a Canada job offer in a big city? Check the map first.
From 9 Oct 2026 to 7 Jan 2027, Service Canada will not process many low-wage LMIA applications in cities where unemployment is 6% or higher.
What changed this quarter:
π Six more CMAs joined the list: Halifax, Fredericton, Kingston, St. CatharinesβNiagara, Regina and Lethbridge
ποΈ Toronto, Vancouver, MontrΓ©al, Calgary and Edmonton are still restricted for those low-wage roles
β
Exemptions still exist for some agriculture, construction, food manufacturing, hospitals, nursing care and certain caregiver roles
This affects the Temporary Foreign Worker Program low-wage stream, not every Canada work route. High-wage LMIAs and Express Entry are separate.
Always verify the city and wage on the official page before you pay an agent or resign from your job.
