One of our coaches is launching a Zoom group for high schoolers—and just nailed the behind-the-scenes setup to make it engaging, private, and smooth.

Here’s how they’re doing it:
🖥 Screen sharing a master slide deck to guide the session
📂 Giving each student their own private Google Slides to:
→ Watch videos
→ Answer prompts
→ Reflect independently
💬 Coach can view all responses in real time and:
→ Let students share voluntarily
→ Or anonymously share student insights so everyone benefits (without putting anyone on the spot)

✨ Slides designed in Canva, uploaded as backgrounds, then made interactive with videos, text boxes, and visuals.

📌 Why it works:
✔️ Keeps students focused
✔️ Supports introverts
✔️ Builds peer connection without pressure

Inside KCC, we help coaches get creative with their delivery—so the experience matches the impact.

💬 KCC Challenge of the Week:
How do you handle confidentiality when coaching teens—especially when parents are footing the bill?

This came up in our Kid Coaching Collaborative (KCC) this week, and it’s a BIG one.

Here’s what we explored 👇
✅ Be clear about confidentiality from day one
✅ If the client is over 18, have them sign a release of information (so you can legally share with/payments from parents)
✅ Keep the balance between client trust and parent communication
✅ Share with intention: what do parents need to know, and why?
✅ Let the teen help craft the summary, email, or update
✅ Coach around moments of disagreement: “Why does sharing this help YOU?”
✅ Keep parent updates general, not specific

Because coaching isn’t just about the session—it’s about the relationship.

🧡 Ethical, collaborative, developmentally appropriate coaching starts here.

Metacognition sounds fancy—but it’s really just thinking about your thinking.

And once kids learn to notice their thoughts, everything starts to shift.
That’s when they go from reactive to reflective.

👀 Most kids don’t even realize their thoughts are driving the bus.
They’re just reacting to how it feels to be in the back seat.

💡 But when we teach metacognition, we help kids:
✅ Notice what they’re thinking
✅ Ask if it’s helpful
✅ Shift their thoughts to shift their outcomes

🎮 Try this coaching tip:
“What channel is your brain on right now?”
“Is that channel helping you?”
“Could we switch it—just for a sec?”

🟣 All-or-nothing thoughts (“This is the WORST day ever”) aren’t wrong—they’re just incomplete.
Metacognitive coaching helps kids move into a purple-thinking zone: where thoughts are flexible, realistic, and manageable.

⚡ The magic?
When a kid catches a thought before it becomes a meltdown...
That’s not just insight. That’s metacognitive power.

We want kids to adapt, reset, and respond differently.
But flexibility doesn’t happen mid-meltdown.

It starts with a moment of self-awareness.
A second of regulation.
A pause.

🧠 Executive function skills build on each other—and in coaching, that pause is often the first real win.

Inside the Kid Coaching Collaborative, we teach coaches how to build those moments into something bigger.

🚨 COACH WIN SPOTLIGHT 🚨
This week in the Kid Coaching Collaborative, we cheered on a coach who’s stepping into something new—
✨ Running a parent group
📖 Launching a book study
🎤 Hosting their first workshop

Because coaching doesn’t have to stay stuck in the 1:1 lane.

You can:
🧠 Teach executive function skills to parents
🏫 Bring trainings into schools
👥 Launch group programs that reach more families—and boost your income per hour

💬 Inside KCC, we don’t just dream about new ideas—we help you make them happen.

📣 KCC Challenge of the Week: Ending Coaching Well

How do you wrap up a coaching relationship when it’s the last session?
Spoiler: It doesn’t need to be a dramatic “termination.” You’re not a therapist. 🙃

In this week’s KCC convo, we unpacked what it can look like:
✔️ Casual but intentional
✔️ Affirming the transition without slamming the door
✔️ Leaving space for future reconnection

🧠 Try this script:
“We don’t have any more sessions scheduled right now, but I’m always just an email away if you’d like to check in or set something up in the future.”

🧰 Want to give the ending more structure?
Wrap up with a coaching recap or “User Manual”:
→ What the client worked on
→ Tools they used
→ Growth they noticed
→ Go-to reminders for the future

🎯 The goal: closure and confidence.

Inside KCC, we talk through transitions like this (and everything in between).

Flexibility isn’t about being easygoing.
It’s a powerful executive function skill that helps kids pivot when the unexpected happens—without shutting down, blowing up, or digging in.

But here’s the catch:
🧠 You can’t coach flexibility in isolation.
You have to build on a foundation of self-awareness and self-regulation first.

💡 That means teaching kids to:
🔹 Notice how they’re feeling
🔹 Reset their response
🔹 Choose a new strategy (even if the situation doesn’t change)

In coaching, we use metaphors like the brain-as-a-controller to help kids understand which “buttons” they can press—and which ones aren’t even theirs to touch.

✨ Try asking:
“What’s one thing you could do differently right now—even if the situation stays the same?”

That’s not toxic positivity.
That’s activating choice.
That’s where flexibility lives.

“Sometimes the biggest win is the pause before the meltdown.”
That one moment.
That breath.
That tiny choice to stop before spiraling.

That’s not just a win—it’s growth.

Because self-regulation doesn’t always look like calm.
Sometimes, it’s just a slightly slower reaction.
And in coaching, we celebrate those micro-milestones.

💬 Inside the Kid Coaching Collaborative, these are the wins we name, track, and build on—together.
