Man charged with Attempted Murder for shooting at tow truck driver
On April 26, 2023 at 3:40 AM, Park Forest Officers were flagged down by a tow truck driver who related someone just shot at him as he attempted to repossess a vehicle. Officers learned the shooting occurred on the 300 block of Miami Street and the offender was later identified as Lorenzo Crawford, a 51-year-old resident of Park Forest.
Apparently, Crawford observed a relative's vehicle being repossessed and believed someone was stealing the vehicle. Crawford exited his residence and fired one "warning shot." When the tow truck began to flee, Crawford fired three more times toward the rear of the truck. One of the rounds penetrated the rear window and struck the headrest of the driver's seat. Thankfully, the driver was not injured. A search warrant was obtained for Crawford's residence and the shown fi****ms were recovered, including the handgun believed to be used during this incident.
Crawford is a convicted felon and cannot legally own any fi****ms. Crawford's previous felony convictions include Armed Robbery, Vehicular Invasion, Burglary, Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer, and drug-related offenses.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office was apprised of this incident and approved that Crawford be charged with Attempted Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. The Park Forest Police Department anticipates additional charges will be filed through a grand jury. Crawford is currently being held at the Cook County Jail with no bond.
The Park Forest Police Department would like to remind the public that people are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
