Not every benefits question belongs with the same person.

A good system routes each problem to the right place.

Our guide does that with five questions.

Is the deadline approaching?

Start with the choices that are hardest to undo.

Could it affect taxes?

Consult a tax professional.

Could it affect concentration or liquidity?

Review it with your investment advisor.

Could it affect protection, beneficiaries, or your estate?

Coordinate with insurance and legal professionals.

Is the election hard to reverse?

Get plan-specific advice before you act.

A “yes” tells you who to call.

Not what to choose.

Plan rules and personal circumstances vary, so the right answer belongs to the right professional.

The Benefits Season Decision Guide walks through all seven decisions, with worksheets.

Most benefits decisions get made in a few rushed minutes.

Often by one person.

Often without the full picture.

Engineers run design reviews for a reason.

Fresh eyes catch what the author stops seeing.

Our Benefits Season Decision Guide includes a 30-minute meeting agenda.

Use it with a spouse, a business partner, or your professional team.

Before: gather your plan summaries and deadlines.

During: pick the three highest-impact decisions.

During: separate reversible choices from irreversible ones.

During: assign each open question to the right professional.

After: confirm your elections and save the receipts.

Thirty minutes.

One shared picture.

Open enrollment isn’t paperwork.
It’s a planning moment.

Most people accept the default.
Same plan as last year.
One click, and the year is set.

We’d suggest testing the default instead.

Medical: test a low-use year and a high-use year.
Retirement: know the match, vesting, and Roth versus pre-tax before you choose.
Company stock: if your job and your stock depend on the same company, that is concentration.
Beneficiaries: each form stands on its own.

Income is what you bring in.
Wealth is what you keep.

Our Benefits Season Decision Guide walks through each of these.

Proud to start 2027 as the first Premier Partner of the Association of African-American Financial Advisors.

Thank you, Sheena Gray and the entire Quad-A team, for the warm welcome back.

Here's why this partnership matters to us:

Our mission is to help families and business owners build generational wealth and lasting legacies.
That work gets stronger when the professionals doing it are connected.

Quad-A is a place where advisors:

Learn from each other.
Share what works.
Keep growing in service to the communities we care about.

Legacy is built in community.
It always has been.

Looking forward to what we build together this year.

Stay informed, stay intentional, and keep growing your wealth, one smart decision at a time.

Most professionals spend about four minutes on open enrollment.

Those four minutes shape their benefits for all of next year.

Here's what I hear every fall:
"I'll just keep what I had last year."
"I don't really understand the options."
"I'll look at it closer next year."

And then the window closes.

Your benefits aren't paperwork.
They're part of your wealth.

Think about what you're actually choosing:

Your retirement plan contribution.
Pre-tax or Roth.
Your health savings options.
Your insurance coverage.

Most of these decisions only come around once a year.

As an engineer, I learned that small inputs shape the whole system.

Your benefits elections run in the background all year long.

So before you click "keep current elections," ask one question:

Did my life change this year?

New job -> new plan, new options
New baby -> new coverage needs
Higher income -> new contribution and tax questions Closer to retirement -> new priorities

If the answer is yes, your elections deserve a second look.

Over the next few weeks, we'll walk through each layer of your benefits.

Follow along.

Growth without direction is just motion.

Saving and investing will build the number. Where that number ends up still takes a decision from you.

This time of year is when those decisions actually get made, whether people notice or not. Open enrollment sets your benefits for the next twelve months. Vested RSUs force a decision on timing and concentration. Year-end is usually when an estate plan finally gets looked at, or finally gets started.

None of it runs on autopilot the way saving does. It takes an actual decision, on a deadline, usually once a year.

Compounding doesn't stop at your own timeline. That's the part most people don't factor in.

Every dollar you direct with intention today keeps working long after the decision is made — through retirement, through a market cycle, sometimes through a generation you'll never meet.

I think about this every time a client tells me their plan stops at a goal of "get through retirement comfortably." That's a good start. It's not the finish line.

The sacrifice you make today may become the option you create tomorrow. But the bigger question is: whose option is it going to be? Just yours — or the people you're building this for?

If you haven't thought past your own timeline yet, that's a conversation worth having.

Stay informed, stay intentional, and keep growing your wealth, one smart decision at a time.

Last week, we attended the Association of African-American Financial Advisors' (Quad-A) VISION Conference in Washington, D.C. — marking the organization's 25th anniversary, under the theme The Wealth Shift: Ownership, Legacy & the Next Era.

Three days with advisors, planners, and firm owners all working toward the same thing we work toward every day: expanding who has access to real financial guidance.

Two members of our team took the stage. Toccara Houston joined the Main Stage panel "Independent RIA Playbook: Ownership, Control & Freedom." Christopher R. Watson Sr. led the breakout "Estate Planning Mastery 2.0: Advanced Trust & Tax Strategies," walking through the advanced trust and tax tools that protect what families build across generations.

This is why we show up. Not just to learn — to be part of the conversation shaping where this industry goes next.

Stay informed, stay intentional, and keep growing your wealth, one smart decision at a time.

The Wilson Wealth team had the opportunity to spend the weekend with the Association of African American Financial Advisors, connecting with advisors from across the country, sharing ideas, and representing the independent RIA community both in the exhibitor hall and on the panels.

We’re proud to be building an independent firm where advisors can grow, serve their clients at a high level, and build something of their own.

A special thank you to Quad-A CEO Sheena Gray for her support, leadership, and for creating a space for our community to connect, learn, and continue moving the industry forward.

Great conversations. Great people. Great weekend in DC.
