Happy international women’s day! I remember being in Delhi, India in 2019 and Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2020 for this day and noticing that so many people celebrated and talked about everywhere.

Fast forward to now, and I feel like this day of celebration is much more prominent worldwide and here in the US than it has been in the past.

I’m excited to share today that in the theme of amplifying the cause of gender equity in investing, I’m collaborating with Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program and AHANA Foundation to put on a Seattle screening of the newly released, award winning documentary, that tells the story of investing in diverse women from the VC, angel, and founder perspectives. And around the world, let’s continue to amplify the momentum of advancing and celebrating the accomplishments of women.

These are scenes from last year’s SOCAP, but for 2023 we are aiming for the stage. I’m excited to share that this year I put forward a panel session concept for the open call at SOCAP Global, one of the top conferences on the topic of impact investing. Our session is titled Women Leading Climate-Tech: Innovations, Investments, and Applying a Gender Lens for a Net Zero Future. Panelists are stellar leaders I have had the opportunity to work with including Beth Foster-Chao of Autodesk Foundation, Adhiti Gupta of Climate Policy Initiative, and Alana Green of Active Impact Investments, each bring a unique perspective on innovation, investment, and applying gender lens practices. We will explore the intersection of climate solutions and gender equity touching on actionable strategies for blended finance, emerging market investing, and recent trends in climate-tech.

Happy International Women’s Day!

In celebration of International Women’s Day, I'm sharing the nutshell version of a session I developed to support women seeking capital. I hope this way to support more women beyond the inspiring clients and participants I get to work with directly.

This piece outlines actionable strategies to stay a step ahead of bias. This is not to say that women or entrepreneurs alone should bear the burden of change. Investors and the venture capital and impact investing industries also and even more so bear the burden of change. But the truth is that we live in a world of bias today.

For women raising capital now, we can leverage the available research to anticipate implicit bias and be prepared. Read more about the strategies I suggest and let’s continue to lift each other up on International Women’s Day and throughout the year!

Had such a rewarding and energizing experience yesterday celebrating the selected Solvers at the 2022 Solve - MIT Finals in New York! The day was full of inspiring pitches, award announcements, and cross-pollinating dialogues with a wide range of people working toward solutions.

This year’s themes included:

- Climate: Ecosystems + Housing
- The Care Economy
- Re-Engaging Learners
- Equitable Health Systems
- Indigenous Communities

We met the Solvers we selected for our cohort in the theme, heard pitches from them, and from all of the 40 selected. We heard award announcements for $2m in funding for Solvers, bore witness to a moving poem performed by Emi Mahmoud that had the room in a standing ovation, and closed the day with powerful insights on agency and interconnection from Asher Jay.

I’m reflecting today on the exponential energy that's generated by an event like this. Energy that we can all carry away from the moment and then use as fuel for the hard work ahead, fuel for supporting and connecting with others, fuel for holding off the overwhelm when the road ahead seems impossible. Huge gratitude to the team at MIT Solve and to everyone who participated.

This is what it’s all about! Seeing the close of a significant impact investment in a powerful solution that partners dedicated, talented founders and team with insightful, aligned investors. This deal is a win for all, especially end users of clean water in rural Cambodia!

Tap Effect is named for the transformative, exponential effect of having clean water piped into rural homes. This effect spans sanitation, health, education, and poverty reduction. Using a combination of technology, business model, and financing innovations this market-based solution is poised to deliver both impact and returns first expanding in Cambodia, then regionally.

The deal is a great fit for the Habitat for Humanity International VC, Shelter Venture Fund, with its remit to support innovations that improve housing as they continue to expand a great portfolio of companies and grow AUM.

It’s been an inspirational opportunity contributing to this project as mentors and as part of our cohort with Villgro Philippines.

The investment marks the fifth anniversary of Habitat’s Shelter Venture Fund, which has already disbursed US$3 million in equity to 11 housing innovations.
