California recently changed the law affecting volunteer church security teams.

The change means some churches may now need to comply with California's private security requirements if their volunteer safety teams perform duties covered by the law.

In my opinion, this makes it harder for churches to build and maintain effective safety teams.

Many churches already struggle to recruit volunteers. Adding additional licensing requirements could become another obstacle to protecting their congregations.

Churches need more trained safety team members, not more barriers to getting them involved.

Security Industry Killer?...

We now know that, two years after California's minimum wage hike, the fast-food industry is down about 3.2%, or roughly 18,000 jobs statewide. Many businesses have responded by cutting hours, reducing overtime, relying more on automation, and raising prices to offset higher labor costs.

Now they want to do something similar to our industry.

SB 1203 would add more mandates, increase licensing costs, and shift more control over security training to the state, rather than allowing qualified private-sector instructors to continue doing what they've been doing successfully for years.

This is one bill we can stand with CALSAGA in opposing.

We should be making it easier, not harder, for good people to get into this profession, for security companies to hire and train quality officers, and for clients to afford the protection they need without being priced out of the market.

It's another state money grab.

We need to protect the future of California's private security industry.

Taser Training!

This coming Friday, May 15 from 1300-1700.

This course is generally put on for security professionals, however, anyone is welcome to join and receive hands-on training. Having less-lethal force options should be “part” of your overall personal defense plan. It is not only more likely, it is a strategy that will only benefit you if you ever have to use force. And it’s a good time!

Cost: $200 (covers Taser and stun device certification for BSIS, and cartridge live fire)
