Just got your MC and every broker says call back in 90 days? You are not alone. Some brokers will not book a new authority until it ages, but plenty of them will if you know where to look.

We help new owner-operators get set up with the brokers that work with young MCs, handle the setup packets and rate negotiation, and keep you moving while your authority ages. You pick the loads, nothing gets booked without your OK.

Send us a message with your truck, trailer and how old your MC is.

Running your own authority means you are the driver, the dispatcher, the bookkeeper and the negotiator. We take the load board searching, broker calls, rate negotiation and paperwork off your plate, so you can focus on driving.

You choose your lanes, your home time and every load. Nothing gets booked without your OK.

Send us a message with your truck, trailer and preferred lanes, and we will tell you how we can help.

Diesel is sitting at $6.30 a gallon according to AAA. That is $2.64 more than this time last year.
The IEA now says the diesel squeeze will last well into 2027, and futures point to about $6 at the pump into January. The EIA is a little more hopeful and expects prices to ease next year, so nobody knows the exact number.

For an owner operator that means one thing. Do not quote a load like diesel is coming back down next week. Price your fuel in through the winter.

What are you paying per gallon where you fuel today?

Congress let the highway bill expire September 30 and only partially fixed it. The basic formula funding that pays for everyday road and transit maintenance got extended, so that keeps flowing. But $36.8 billion in advance appropriations under Division J, the money behind bridge repairs and safety project awards, was not extended and lapsed October 1.

This is not abstract for anyone running a truck. Bridge and safety project funding is what keeps road conditions from degrading and clears the backlog of repairs you drive over every week. Industry groups are pushing Congress to restore it, but there is no deadline forcing action this time.

Worth watching over the next few months. If this drags, expect more detours, more posted weight limits on older bridges, and slower repair timelines heading into next year.

The longest freight downturn on record just ended. Cass Information Systems reported that shipments in August rose 2.1% year over year, the first gain since January 2023. That closes out a 42 month decline, the longest Cass has ever measured. Truckload linehaul rates rose 11.3% year over year, the 20th straight monthly increase.

Before anyone calls it a boom, read what Cass itself said. The August jump mostly offsets declines in June and July, and normal seasonal patterns point to only about 1% growth in September. They hesitated to call it a major improvement in demand.

What it means for you: the contract market is still adjusting upward while spot slows, so check when your contract rates renew. Price like the market turned, but do not spend like it boomed.

The trucking industry has lost 122,000 drivers since October 2022, according to revised BLS data. 28,000 left in 2025 alone, eight times the original forecast.

This matters because of why they left. It is not a demand collapse like past freight cycles. Non-domiciled CDL crackdowns, English proficiency enforcement, and tighter state audits are pulling capacity out from under a market where freight volume never really recovered. Analysts at DAT and TriumphPay are calling this the first freight upcycle in years driven by enforcement instead of demand.

What that means for you: a clean CSA score and real compliance are worth more right now than they have been in a long time. Brokers and shippers are getting pickier about who they trust with a load, and the operators who stayed compliant while others cut corners are the ones this market is paying.

A dark web marketplace called Nexus started selling over 153 million driver’s license scans from the US and Canada on August 31. IDScan.net, a company that processes ID checks for car rental counters, retailers and dispensaries, confirmed on September 4 that its systems were breached. The FBI’s New Orleans field office is investigating.

If you have rented a vehicle, verified age at a retailer, or had your license scanned anywhere that used IDScan’s system, your CDL may be in this. A commercial license carries more of your identity than most IDs, and it is also tied to your MC.

This connects to something already true in trucking. Roughly 15% of owner operators in this year’s Overdrive survey reported their MC number used by someone else to book fraudulent loads. A stolen license makes that easier, not harder.

Watch your MC activity on SAFER, and if anything shows up you did not book, report it immediately.

National on-highway diesel hit $5.967 a gallon on September 7, up 36.8 cents in a single week. That breaks the old nominal weekly record of $5.81 set in June 2022, during the worst of the post-Covid spike.

This is not a seasonal blip. Diesel inventories are forecast to drop below 100 million barrels this month and stay under the five year low through most of 2027. Tight global distillate supply and strong export demand are keeping US prices elevated, and EIA’s own outlook does not see meaningful relief before year end.

If your fuel surcharge was set even three weeks ago, you are already behind the real cost of running. Check the current FSC index before you accept the next load, not after.

Trucks move more than 72% of all domestic freight tonnage in the US. Every shelf stocked, every package delivered, every load that shows up on time is because somebody stayed in the seat.

Freight usually slows the week of Labor Day. If you can take it, take it. The loads will still be posted Tuesday.

Happy Labor Day to every owner operator running their own authority, and to the drivers keeping this country moving.

Spot rates cooled in mid August. Van down 2 cents to $2.93, flatbed down 6 cents to $3.54. Every headline this week will read “rates falling.”

The number that actually matters is the year over year. Rates are still 34 to 38 percent above where they sat this week last year across every equipment type. Loads are up 26 percent while available trucks are down 28 percent, which is the structural reason capacity stays tight.

A weekly dip is seasonal. The yearly gap is the market you are actually selling into. If a broker uses the weekly number to lean on you, quote the year.
