What a day! While four of our probationary members worked on probationary training, members of the local who rescued an occupant from a recent structure fire were recognized for their actions. After that, personnel gathered at Station 36 to assist with some high-intensity RIT training with the four probationary members.

Then finally, at the end of the day, we were glad to attend and show support as three new members were sworn into the township! Congratulations gentlemen!

Late this afternoon personnel working the D Platoon were activated by Tinicum Township Fire Company Station 48 to assist with a complex confined space/water rescue. The victim had fallen approximately 15ft into a hole of a pump house located along the Delaware River. Squad 26 and Truck 37, along with UDC1 and UDC3-C made the response. Luckily, personnel were able to assist the victim out via a fire service ladder. A lowering system was assembled to lower the victim, along with a few others, to fire service boats to transport them back to shore.

Early activation by first arriving companies and a collaborative, team effort, were critical factors in the timely success of this incident. Additionally, we don’t recommend trespassing, as it’s not the best time to meet.

Please join us in congratulating four new probationary firefighters, as today was graduation day for the 75th class of the Harrisburg Area Community College’s fire academy! Over the past several months, Gabriel Leskusky, Bowen Diamond, Jeffrey Rodgers, and Joseph Mueller completed the vigorous program of classroom and practical training alongside new firefighters from several different departments. They were fortunate enough to learn from some of the best instructors in the country. But of course, their journey has just begun, as they will now begin their orientation training with the UDFD and rotate through our four companies over the next 6 months to become well-versed in our riding positions and SOP’s. We wish them long and safe careers and sincerely welcome them to our ranks in the best job in the world!

Yesterday afternoon, personnel working the D Platoon responded to a fire in the 100 block of Overhill Rd. The fire was quickly extinguished with no civilian injuries.

This was Brother Goldschmidt’s first fire with our department as a career firefighter. He performed exceptionally well, credited to the high training and performance standards instilled in all new members. Some well earned numbers were awarded by the senior firefighter on Truck 37’s crew.

Members of the Local attended Challenger Day for the District 19 Challenger League, which was held at Dermond Field this past weekend.

The league is an adaptive baseball program for those who have physical and developmental challenges. These players demonstrate their teamwork and sportsmanship to their fans and get to improve their self esteem because of this program.

As usual, Firefighter Paul McCormick was joined by several past and present members of the department to provide hot dogs for the event for all those in attendance to enjoy.

We are humbled to be part of the Upper Darby community, and look forward to supporting you whenever and wherever we can!
