During a routine maintenance visit, we discovered milky oil in a two-year-old Generac standby generator.
That milky appearance indicates water contamination, often caused by condensation. Short run cycles that don’t allow the engine to get hot enough to evaporate moisture can contribute to this issue.

Today’s install was a little extra special for Greenhawk. ⚡️

We had the opportunity to install a standby generator for Steve DeCusatis Design — Steve helped bring the Greenhawk brand to life when we were just getting started.

Pretty cool when a Philadelphia small business gets to help another Philadelphia small business. 🤝

When installing a standby generator, there’s more to it than picking a spot next to the house.

A few key things need to be considered:

• Electrical location — Where does power enter the home?
• Gas location — Where does natural gas or propane enter the home?
• Generator location — Where would you like the generator to go?
• Gas supply — The generator should be properly supplied from the gas system, with adequate gas pressure and capacity.
• Local codes — What setbacks and installation requirements apply?

In this example:
The gas and electrical services entered on the left side of the home, but the generator needed to be installed on the right side.

That meant running both gas and electrical from one side of the house to the other.

➡️ Longer runs = additional materials and labor, which can increase installation costs.

Every home is different. Proper planning, gas sizing, electrical requirements, and local code compliance all play a role in designing the right generator installation.
