This is what we like to see when we talk about expanding apprenticeships. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has released $7,000,000 in funding to expand apprenticeships through its Growing Apprenticeship in Nontraditional Sectors (GAINS) and Pre-Apprenticeship in Career Education (PACE) grant programs.
Why do I like these grant opportunities? This funding seems to truly address the gaps in our current workforce system that prevent employers from participating in registered apprenticeships. It includes reimbursing employers for the wages paid to apprentices, up to $12,000 per apprentice over 52 work weeks.
