This is what we like to see when we talk about expanding apprenticeships. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has released $7,000,000 in funding to expand apprenticeships through its Growing Apprenticeship in Nontraditional Sectors (GAINS) and Pre-Apprenticeship in Career Education (PACE) grant programs.

Why do I like these grant opportunities? This funding seems to truly address the gaps in our current workforce system that prevent employers from participating in registered apprenticeships. It includes reimbursing employers for the wages paid to apprentices, up to $12,000 per apprentice over 52 work weeks.

The United States is known as a land of second chances but for 650,000 people released from prison each year and nearly 80 million who have been justice involved, second chances aren't always easy to come by. Three Quarters of formerly incarcerated people remain unemployed a year after their release - and joblessness is a top predictor of recidivism. We've got to do better! Join Walter Simmons, Amanda Wagner and a panel of 7 Workforce Leaders this Thursday from 1 - 3 pm ET as they dig into best practices, promising approaches, and service delivery models that support justice impacted residents as they put in the work to overcome complex and persistent barriers on their journey to self-sufficient employment. Message us for the link to join!
