EMERGENCY SERVICES NIGHT RETURNS TO UPPER SADDLE RIVER
One of the most exciting community events planned this fall is the return of
Emergency Services Night, currently scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2026,
at the Upper Saddle River Firehouse. Organized by our volunteer emergency
services community, the event is designed as a family-friendly evening focused
on public safety education, community outreach, and volunteer recruitment.
Residents will have the opportunity to interact directly with the dedicated men
and women who serve our community every day. Planning efforts are underway
to bring together local, county, and state public safety agencies to showcase
the equipment, training, and resources that help keep our community safe.
Organizers are exploring demonstrations and displays from organizations in-
cluding the Bergen County Sheriff's Office, the New Jersey State Police, the
Bergen County Fire Academy, as well as our own Upper Saddle River Police
Department, Fire Department, and Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
The event is expected to feature emergency vehicles, specialized equipment
displays, fire safety education, volunteer recruitment opportunities, and interac-
tive activities designed to engage residents of all ages. Food and refreshments
are also being planned to make the evening a true community gathering.
Beyond the demonstrations and exhibits, Emergency Services Night serves
an important purpose. It provides residents with an opportunity to learn about
emergency preparedness, meet their local first responders, and better understand
the critical role that volunteerism plays in maintaining public safety services in
Upper Saddle River. It is also an opportunity for residents interested in giving
back to their community to learn more about volunteer opportunities within our
emergency services organizations.
I would like to thank the members of the Upper Saddle River Fire Department
who are working to organize this event. Their vision for creating a meaningful
educational experience while strengthening community connections exemplifies
the spirit of service that makes Upper Saddle River such a special place to live.

On Tuesday the Upper Saddle River Fire Department responded to a structure fire in town. Thank you to our mutual aid partners both on the scene and standing by protecting the town. We remind everyone in town that smoke alarms save lives, practice fire safety and any fire even if it’s out to call 911!

Congratulations to USRFD Firefighter Erik Seay on his selection/appointment to the Montclair N.J. Fire Department.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires may impact air quality across Northern New Jersey over the next several days.

The Upper Saddle River Fire Department encourages residents to:

* ✔️ Check the Air Quality Index at AirNow.gov
* ✔️ Limit prolonged outdoor activity if air quality is unhealthy
* ✔️ Keep windows closed and use air conditioning on recirculate
* ✔️ Consider wearing a properly fitted N95 mask if extended time outdoors is necessary
* ✔️ Pay extra attention to children, older adults, and those with heart or lung conditions

If you experience difficulty breathing, chest pain, or worsening respiratory symptoms, seek medical care immediately.

Stay informed, stay hydrated, and take steps to protect your health until air quality improves.

One additional recommendation: wildfire smoke often settles into valleys and low-lying areas overnight and in the early morning when the atmosphere is more stable. If the AQI is only moderately elevated, outdoor activities are often better scheduled for the afternoon after mixing improves—though residents should always rely on current AQI readings, as conditions can change throughout the day.

Test your carbon monoxide alarms. Make sure they’re near sleeping areas and the batteries are working.
