Landscape Recycling Center Operated by the City of Urbana Public Works Department under a cooperative agreement between the cities of Champaign and Urbana, LRC is open year-round.

This not-for-profit facility serving Champaign County was started in 1987 to divert yard debris — which accounts for an overwhelming 25% of all waste in Illinois — from overcrowded landfills. LRC uses ecological and economical methods to

recycle yard waste such as grass clippings, brush and plant cuttings into lawn and garden composts, topsoil and mulches that are available for purchase by residents and companies in Champaign County. We provide advice and support for WILL-TV’s production of Mid-American Gardener, available on public television stations throughout Illinois, and we’re involved in our community by donating products to organizations such as Champaign’s North First Street Prosperity Garden project. When visiting our facility, please be aware that you must check in at the gate no later than 30 minutes prior to closing time.

The Landscape Recycling Center will be temporarily closed on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding.

The Landscape Recycling Center is accepting **storm debris**, but materials must meet our disposal guidelines to ensure safe and efficient processing.

🌿 **Brush & Plant Cuttings**
✔️ Up to **12 inches in diameter**
✔️ Up to **8 feet long**
Fee: $11.00 yd³

🪵 **Large Limbs & Bulk Wood (over 12" diameter) **
✔️ Must be **cut into sections 3 feet or shorter**
✔️ Must be **separated from other brush and yard waste**
Fee: $22.50 yd³

❌ We cannot accept stumps, root balls, treated lumber, construction materials, rocks, dirt, or trash.

Following these guidelines helps reduce wait times and allows us to serve the community more efficiently after severe weather events.

Hi all!

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s day, the Landscape recycling center will be closed Monday, January 19, 2026. We will reopen Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 8 am.
