Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, October 14 will be Senator Chuck Grassley, President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate and third in line of succession to the President. Senator Grassley is serving his eighth term in the Senate. He also served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is the longest serving Republican member of Congress in our country’s history. He is a great national leader who also knows how to win tough elections.
Senator Grassley chairs the Senate Judicial Committee where he led the successful confirmation efforts of three Supreme Court Justices, giving the Court a conservative majority. He also is a past Chair of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. The Senator additionally serves on the Agriculture and Budget Committees, living up to his campaign slogan “Grassley Works”.
Every year since his first election he has held public meetings in each of Iowa’s 99 counties. Presidential candidates touring our state now refer to this as “doing the full Grassley”.
The Senator and his wife Barbara live on their family farm near New Hartford. He is one of the few farmers currently serving in Congress.
Senator Grassley earned both his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degrees from the University of Northern Iowa.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, September 30 will be Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird. Brenna made history when she defeated the longest serving Attorney General in United States. She was the first Iowa Republican elected AG since 1979. Prior to her election Attorney General Bird served as Legal Counsel to the Iowa Governor and also was Chief of Staff for an Iowa Congressman. She also served as County Attorney for Fremont and Audubon Counties and became the Guthrie County Attorney in 2018. She was elected President of the Iowa County Attorneys Association by her peers.
She has repeatedly provided effective conservative legal leadership at both the state and national levels.
Brenna earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Drake University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago where she was an editor of the Law Review.
Brenna and her husband Bob live with their son on their farm in southeastern Guthrie County.

We are NOT currently scheduled to meet on Wednesday, October 7. Senator Chuck Grassley will be our Wednesday, October 14 speaker.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, September 23 will be Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, who is serving his eighth year leading the nation’s top agriculture producing state. Iowa leads the nation in the production of corn, pork and eggs and runs a strong second in soybeans. He is also a strong advocate for water and soil conservation as Iowa annually sets new records for practices such as cover crop usage.
Mike was first elected Secretary of Agriculture in 2018 and re-elected four years later. He previously served five years as Iowa’s deputy state secretary of agriculture. Before that he spent thirteen years working in the agriculture industry. He grew up on his family farm in Cylinder and continues to be involved in its operation.
Secretary Naig attended Buena Vista University in Storm Lake and earned degrees in biology and political science.
Mike and his wife Jaime have three sons, Mitch, Zach and Joe.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, September 9 will be Iowa’s Lt. Governor Chris Cournoyer. Chris is also the Republican nominee for State Auditor. Chris Hagenow and John Hendrickson with Iowans for Tax Relief will also explain and discuss the proposed constitutional amendment that will be on this November’s ballot. Its passage will increase the number of votes necessary to raise our taxes.
Chris Cournoyer was appointed Lt. Governor by Governor Kim Reynolds in December 2024. Prior to serving as Lt. Governor, she was elected to two terms in the Iowa Senate, where she served as an Assistant Majority Leader and she represented Clinton, Jackson and Scott counties. She chaired the initial Technology Committee where she wrote and managed the legislation that made Iowa one of the first states to protect consumer data. Chris also chaired the Education Budget Committee and was Vice Chair of the State Government Committee. She also served on the Education, Natural Resources, Transportation and Ways and Means committees.
Before her election to the Legislature she was elected to two terms on her local school board and served as its President.
The Lt. Governor earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science from the University of Texas. She worked as a senior technology consultant for a Fortune 500 company and later served as a private technology consultant.
She also has served as a former Scott County reserve Deputy Sheriff.
Chris has four children and resides in LeClaire.

Our Westside Conservative Club Speaker for Wednesday, September 2 will be Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith. Roby was elected Treasurer in 2022 when he defeated the longest serving State Treasurer in the United States. He is seeking his second term.
Prior to serving as Treasurer Roby served three terms in the Iowa Senate where he chaired the State Government Committee and also served on the Commerce, Ways and Means and the Rules and Administration Committees.
Before entering public service he spent almost a decade in the banking industry where he developed a strong foundation in financial management and fiscal oversight.
Roby is also an Eagle Scout.
He earned a Business Administration degree from Concordia University in Nebraska.
Roby and his wife Kari reside in Davenport with their four children.

Our September 9 speaker will be Iowa Lt . Governor and candidate for Iowa State Auditor Chris Cournoyer. Iowans for Tax Relief will also discuss the proposed Constitutional Amendment addressing tax increases that will be on our November ballots.
