This Omega Cal. 861 came in with a hammer that was in contact with both the seconds heart and the minute register heart. We only need it to contact the seconds heart as the minute jumper will take care of the minute register heart. This will ensure the seconds hand always returns to exactly zero each time.

It's hard to see with the bridge in the way so in the first diagram you can see both branches of the hammer are in contact and then a dotted line to denote how much metal needs to be removed. The second diagram shows the hammer now set up correctly. The videos demonstrate the before and after on the actual watch movement.

The Heuer Cal. 11 and all it's collectives don't have a traditional center wheel and cannon pinion. In their own tech guides it goes by "Large Driving Wheel with Cannon Pinion". Other companies may call it an "Off Center, Center Wheel" or "Great Wheel".

Whatever you call it, first it must be disassembled, cleaned and then lubricated and reassembled before installing it back in the main plate.

Here's the reassembly using the Horia tool for control.

The brake for this Valjoux chronograph was being pinned down when the shouldered screw was tightened all the way. Rather common occurrence with vintage chronographs. So, the screw takes a trip to the lathe for a little under cutting and the brake is back in working order.

Working with vintage watches means finding broken screws....that won't budge.

So, onto the lathe, center, sharp graver to make a pip, drill a hole, broach it out, find it was all rusty, thankfully just surface rust, find a replacement screw.

Then on with the rest of the service.
