Yes folks, INDOT is sticking it to us once again, and closing highway 6 between Mander Road and 350 East until the end of July. Great. This is the sixth time in the 8 and a 1/2 years I have owned the winery. We've had 2 roundabouts, paving, and 3 times now that have shut it down for anywhere from 2 to 6 months. There is an easy workaround for this though folks, so PLEASE don't not come out to see us because of it. We need your support now more than ever. Here is a little map to show you how you can get around it easily, without going way out of your way. If you are coming from the East (Westville) the road is open to to past the winery. If you are coming from the West (49 bypass) it's an easy detour if you're a car. It's the commercial vehicles that can't go on the county roads. You can also go to 400E from Valpo or Chesterton and take it to 6, and we're right there, just a little further East.
This weekend we have the HICKS DUO on Saturday from 2 to 5pm and on Sunday we'll have FOR PETE'S SAKE for their regular first Sunday of the month. Hopefully both will be out in the garden enjoying the sunshine and mild temperatures.

Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our dear Corky this morning. He had become diabetic (from all the stress he endured because the health department decided, after 6 years, that he wasn't allowed in the winery anymore.) and over the weekend he crashed.
Corky showed up at the winery in May of 2020, a tiny little kitten of just 5 or 6 weeks old. We never knew how he got there (although I have my suspicions that my late husband may have had more than a little bit to do with it!) From day one he was on the job, the best mouser I have ever had! We had a huge issue with mice (out in the country in an old building, you get the picture). I never saw a live mouse after Corky came to us. We always called him our Rodent Control Officer, and he took his job very seriously!
In addition to rodent elimination, he was the ambassador for the winery. He loved hanging out with the folks who visited the winery and everyone loved him. He was always very well behaved, never jumping on tables or anywhere he shouldn't have been. But he sure did love the attention he received from "his public". He was particularly fond of providing entertainment for showers in the greenhouse. He would catch a mouse, and take it to the greenhouse and flip it around for everyone to see, then for the finale, he would take it under a table and eat it. We never charged extra for the entertainment! :)
Corky was also a huge music lover. He would waltz through any performance and sit for a bit to listen. He found violin cases to be particularly comfortable. He was particularly fond of Pat White, cellist extraordinaire, and would lay at her feet while she played. I'm not sure who enjoyed that more, her or him!
I am adding some of my favorite pictures of my boy here. So many fond memories from the last 6 years. Thank you all for loving Corky and Charlie over the years. I know you are all as sad as I am about this, but please, rather than condolences, I would love if you would share your favorite story about Corky and/or Charlie. I think it would be a fitting tribute to this amazing 18 pounds of kitty love!
(Charlie, by the way, is alive and well and has been rehomed).
Thank you for listening. :)

If you've been out to visit us recently you may have noticed the blue tubes along the lane leading to the winery. We have planted new vines! Mike and Sue worked very hard last week putting in nearly 100 vines! (So we were very happy to see this nice rain this morning!)
We decided on a variety named "Brianna". This is a relatively new and little-known white grape variety bred in 1983 by Elmer Swenson of Wisconsin. It has a profile similar to a Sauvignon Blanc, with notes of grapefruit and pineapple as well as other yellow, tropical fruits. We liked the disease resistance of this vine (which is a big problem in the Midwest!) and thought the flavors would be interesting to try.
With 100 vines, it will be a small production in 2 or 3 years, but hopefully we will eventually be able to offer an "Estate Wine" from Anderson's! Wine club members will have first shot at it, in order of when they joined if there isn't enough to cover the entire membership, so you don't want to delay in joining!
We have some really fun activities planned for this summer and fall, as well as some great discounts and perks for members. Brochures are available at the counter, and we'd love to tell you more about it!
We are open today, Sunday, but will be closed tomorrow for the holiday so that our employees can have a nice holiday too!
Hope to see you!

Jason Martin Jazz will be playing this coming Saturday, 5/23. Then on Sunday we have Michelle Velez and That DAM Band. Two great groups to listen to while you drink your beer or wine, and enjoy a flatbread or a cheese plate!
Mark your calendars now for the next Rusty Strings Orchestra concert on Saturday, May 30th, at 6:00PM! This concert is titled "Westward Ho!" and will include familiar selections--Bonanza, Streets of Laredo, Hoe Down, as well as a selection from the Grand Canyon Suite, and other Western themed pieces. Plan to join us for this really fun concert!
Our winemaking class has been delayed till fall so that we can order in California juice to make our wine. What a perfect way to stock up for the holidays! Make your own 30 bottles of delicious wine! More details will be forthcoming as soon as we decide on dates.

Thanks everyone, for your love and support! We appreciate you all so much!

Two great musicians coming up today and tomorrow for Mother's Day weekend! Get ahead of the game and take mom out today to Anderson's for a flatbread, panini, or nacho mountain, and listen to Jack Cunningham and his tunes. If you decide to wait for tomorrow, we'll be here with Dave Hernandez strumming and singing from 2 to 5pm.
We don't take reservations, but we have tons of seating--tasting room, garden or porch!
Hope to see you, and Happy Mother's Day to all those gals who have devoted themselves to the toughest job in the world! But the most rewarding!

WINEMAKING WITH OUR WINEMAKERS, MIKE AND SUE MANTAI!!
If you are interesting in signing up for the winemaking class which starts on Wednesday, May 20th, we need you to do that ASAP so that we can order in the supplies. You'll make 30 bottles of premium wine (there is a choice of varietals), and all of the supplies and equipment that you need will be part of the cost, and you can keep it all and do it again at home if you want to! I don't know about you, but I am more than a little bit intimidated by the whole process, and having Mike and Sue hold my hand through this is exactly what I need! I hope you feel the same! Oh, and no picking, stomping, or destemming involved--we will use juice pails!
Costs is $325 for wine club members and $375 for nonmembers (pays to sign up for the wine club, right?!?) Call me (Denna) at 219 405-1365 (leave me a quick message and I'll call you right back!) or stop in to the winery to sign up!
It's gonna be great fun!
