We just wrapped up an outstanding three-day Tactical Patrol Officer Response (TPOR) course hosted by the Keizer Police Department, and I want to take a moment to recognize the officers who invested their time, energy, and effort into becoming better prepared for the realities of today's operational environment.
Over the past three days, these officers tackled challenging problems that required critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and discipline under pressure. Training blocks included ambush mitigation, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), self-care and buddy-care, downed-officer rescue and extraction, movement techniques, and operations in visually degraded and challenging environments.
What stood out most was not the tactics. It was the mindset.
The willingness to learn.
The willingness to be coached.
The willingness to push through fatigue and continue improving.
Every officer in attendance demonstrated professionalism, humility, and a commitment to their craft. They challenged themselves physically and mentally, worked through complex problems, and continually sought ways to improve their performance and decision-making.
Training is never about checking a box. It is about building capability before the day comes when capability is needed most.
The students who attended this course leave with enhanced skills, improved decision-making frameworks, and a stronger operational mindset that can be applied immediately in the field. More importantly, they leave better prepared to protect their communities, their partners, and themselves.
A special thank you to the Keizer Police Department for hosting the course and supporting regional training efforts. Partnerships like these help strengthen our profession and improve readiness across agencies.
To every officer who attended: thank you for your effort, your professionalism, and your commitment to continuous improvement.
Train hard.
Stay humble.
Keep learning.
Be safe and stay dangerous!
