BNI Educational Moment:
Planting Bamboo: Why BNI Success Takes Time
Good morning everyone,
Today, I want to share a lesson that perfectly reflects what it takes to be successful in BNI.
It's called The Chinese Bamboo Tree Principle.
When a Chinese bamboo tree is planted, something remarkable happens.
During the first year, you see almost nothing.
The second year, still almost nothing.
The third year, no visible growth.
The fourth year, nothing above the ground.
At that point, most people would conclude that the seed failed.
Most people would stop watering it.
Most people would quit.
But what they don't see is what's happening beneath the surface.
During those years, the bamboo is developing an extensive root system. It is building a foundation strong enough to support incredible future growth.
Then, in the fifth year, something amazing happens.
The bamboo can grow more than 80 feet in just a few weeks.
The question is:
Did it grow 80 feet in a few weeks?
Or did it spend five years preparing for that moment?
The answer is obvious.
The growth happened because of the years of unseen work.
BNI works exactly the same way.
Many people join a networking group expecting immediate results. They attend a few meetings, hand out a few business cards, and hope the referrals start flowing.
But the most successful members understand that BNI is not about instant gratification.
It's about building roots.
Every one-to-one meeting builds trust.
Every referral builds credibility.
Every testimonial strengthens relationships.
Every meeting attended demonstrates commitment.
Every visitor invited helps strengthen our chapter.
These actions may not produce immediate results, but they are creating the foundation for future growth.
And then one day, just like the bamboo tree, the results start appearing.
The referrals become more frequent.
The relationships become deeper.
The opportunities become larger.
The chapter becomes stronger.
And your business begins to grow in ways that once seemed impossible.
As we focus on growing our chapter and bringing in new members, remember this:
Every visitor we invite today is a seed.
Some seeds take time to grow, but the chapters that consistently plant seeds are the chapters that experience extraordinary growth.
So don't judge your success by what you see today.
Judge it by the roots you're building through your relationships, your consistency, and your commitment to the BNI philosophy of Givers Gain®.
Because the strongest businesses, the strongest chapters, and the strongest relationships are built the same way bamboo grows—
Slowly at first, invisibly for a while, and then suddenly in a way that everyone notices.
Thank you.
Weekly Takeaway
"Success in BNI isn't built in a single meeting. It's built through consistent actions, strong relationships, and the patience to let the roots grow."
