The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Plans on having a safety report out by the end of 2014 for Fukushima... WTH?

IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety

A Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety adopted a Declaration that requested the Director General to develop a draft Action Plan on Nuclear Safety. In September 2011, the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety was adopted by the IAEA's Board of Governors and subsequently unanimously endorsed by the IAEA General Conference. The ultimate goal of the Action Plan is to strengthen nuclear safety worldwide.

The IAEA has recently initiated the preparation of the IAEA Fukushima Comprehensive Report which will be published by year-end 2014.

Tritium has leaked from 48 of 65 nuclear sites in the US. In one case it was detected in groundwater at levels exceeding the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water standards by up to 375 times.[22]

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission states that in normal operation in 2003, 56 pressurized water reactors released 40,600 curies (1.50 PBq) of tritium (maximum: 2,080; minimum: 0.1; average: 725) and 24 boiling water reactors released 665 curies (24.6 TBq) (maximum: 174; minimum: 0; average: 27.7), in liquid effluents.

U.S. health officials report weekly deaths by age in 122 cities, about 25 to 35 percent of the national total. Deaths rose 4.46 percent from 2010 to 2011 in the 14 weeks after the arrival of Japanese fallout, compared with a 2.34 percent increase in the prior 14 weeks. The number of infant deaths after Fukushima rose 1.80 percent, compared with a previous 8.37 percent decrease. Projecting these figures for the entire United States yields 13,983 total deaths and 822 infant deaths in excess of the expected. These preliminary data need to be followed up, especially in the light of similar preliminary U.S. mortality findings for the four months after Chernobyl fallout arrived in 1986, which approximated final figures.

Genuine, straight forward article about all of the damages already done by nuclear technology.

Everyone knows about Chernobyl, Three Mile Island and, now, Fukushima. But what about Semipalatinsk, Palomares and Kyshtym? The world is full of nuclear disaster zones -- showing just how dangerous the technology really is.

Specifically, the Department of Energy wants to build dozens of small scale nuclear reactors across the country. The reactors would be given the euphemistic name “small modular reactors” and they’re already on the drawing board. News stories indicate that a company called Babock & Wilcox has already been given a contract to build the first reactor. The company is already building two of the reactors in Oak Ridge, Tenn.Read more: http://www.storyleak.com/obama-plans-dozens-nuclear-reactor-us-amid-fukushima/

Well, Entergy went to first the federal court here in Vermont and won, and then went to an appeals court in New York City and won again on the right—on the issue, as they framed it, that states have no authority to regulate safety. And they successfully argued that. But the position of the state was never about safety. You know, I was involved in the evaluations back in ’09 and 2010, and when we found safety problems on the panel that I was on, we immediately notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Our goal was to look at the cost of Vermont Yankee and the reliability of Vermont Yankee as an aging plant. That got muddled up in the legal arguments, and Entergy prevailed.

"I was recently asked why did I care for the Fukushima so much if I live far away, high in Peruvian Andes? Can you believe that question? I don’t blame you if you don’t. Because I can’t believe it either, and I was the one who was asked. Well, I guess, I am human enough to care for human suffering as such, and I would care for the people of Japan even if I wouldn’t be affected by Fukushima myself. But I also understand that there is no such a thing as separate oceans on our planet. In reality, there is only one global interconnected and continuous body of water which is called World Ocean."

According to the EPA's radiation network, we are having a slight uptick in radiation levels. Probably due to the rain. The Radiation Network appears to be down right now, so haven't been able to double check.

Be safe.

The graph below shows the gross gamma count rate data from the air monitor at this location. By reviewing and comparing gamma count rates over time, EPA can tell if changes in the data are caused by the normal fluctuations in background radiation from naturally occurring sources or if they represent...
