💡 May Mental Health Awareness Employer Branding Tip:

In 2023, all branding, including employer branding, should create an emotional connection, so get started now to be ready to demonstrate your commitment to employee mental health during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Create a video that tells the story of how your company empowered an employee through a difficult time. For example: show how how the company provided access to resources like an EAP, Telehealth though the company’s insurance plan, an onsite gym, a caring leader who checked in regularly, and perhaps even sponsored employee's access to a mental health app like Calm.

By sharing a real person's story, the viewer can relate more easily and understand the benefits of working for the company. While this video demonstrates the company's focus on mental health, it also as a bonus highlights the total compensation and strong company culture.

The video can represent a story by changing the names and circumstances to protect privacy, and it can even be shot from the employee's point of view, never showing a face. Your script should represent a real relatable experience and use words from your cultural basics.

Here are some simple dos and don’ts for writing job ads in support of your recruitment marketing plan:

❌: Post your job description with every detail needed to evaluate job performance. That is an HR document, not an ad.
👍🏼: Write job ads that are actual ADS that hook someone’s attention and draws them in to learn more, then apply.

❌: Begin your job ad with “We are seeking to fill X position…” (Duh, one can assume that. It’s the whole point of the job ad.)
👍🏼: Begin your job ad with a sentence that gets the reader excited about continuing to read the job ad. That’s the ONLY job of the opening sentence. Make it count.

❌: Begin your job ad with blah, blah about how awesome your company is first.
👍🏼: Start the ad by telling your ideal candidate who they are and why they are a great fit for the role and the culture. Then you can share how awesome your company is in a way that addresses the WIFFM (What’s in it for me, the candidate?).

❌: List every single responsibility of the role. (Unless you want to make your ideal candidate’s eyes bleed.)
❌: Include "Other duties as assigned." That SCREAMS "no work-life balance" and "we are understaffed, so you'll be picking up the slack." Not exactly sexy, sellable content!
👍🏼: List 5-7 KEY areas of responsibility, then unpack the rest in the interview process.

❌: Use boring, corporate speak.
👍🏼: Reference your brand guide (we can help you create one) and embrace the personality and tone of your brand. Talk to a person like a person, not an entity.

❌: Assume the candidate knows what to do next.
👍🏼: Use a strong CTA (call to action) like, "apply below," or "email [email protected]." Internet surfers are trained to be TOLD to swipe left, scroll down, double tap, etc…so TELL THEM WHAT TO DO NEXT.

Follow these tips to dramatically increase the eyeballs that stay on your job ad and to increase conversions! Or you can let our employee experience-obsessed experts at Employer Brand Central do their magic to update your job ads for you. ;)
