Ventura Pest Control, Inc. and IPM:
While in their environment, Insects, rodents, birds, and other critters are extremely important in maintaining the ecological balance of our environment. However, when they enter areas such as homes, commercial and food production facilities, they can endanger our health and damage our properties, food, and other commodities. An example of this would be termites. Without termites, fallen trees would litter and congests our forests however, when termites start eating our homes and buildings, they become a dangerous and destructive pest causing billions in property damage each year.
When insects, rodents and birds become pests, Ventura Pest Control follows an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach. IPM begins with the Inspection of the problem (or potential) problem area. We then recommend methods of prevention such as sanitation, repairs, and exclusion. When it is determined that a pesticide or rodenticide is necessary, we begin with the products that will cause the least environmental impact. An example of this would be as follows: Termites are found in a patio post of a home. Ventura Pest Control would start by inspecting all accessible areas of the home and determine if the termite activity extends into other areas such as the attic our crawlspace below the home. If the termites are limited to just the post, an IPM approach would be to remove and replace the post or inject an organic termiticide (tree oil) into the area of infestation. However, if the termites have infested the home, it may be necessary to install termite bait stations or treat the soil surrounding the home. Again, we would then choose a termiticide with the lest toxicity to humans and the environment.
Working together with our customers, Ventura Pest Control is very successful at managing pests when following these simple IPM practices.
Staff:
Ventura Pest Control currently has 40 full-time members of our team, and we are regularly hire new Customer Service Representatives and Service Technicians. Our company culture is friendly and professional, and we compensate or team at the high end of industry standards. We follow all the best practices when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Office:
Given that the Ventura Pest Control office was built in the late 1970’s, it is not “Leed” certified however, we have taken several steps to reduce our environmental impact.
• Our office warehouse and meeting rooms are lit by large skylights. Given that
we are only open for business during the day, it is seldom that we have the
need to turn the lights on in these areas.
• All interior and exterior lighting is LED.
• Our offices are well insulated, and we do not heat our cool our warehouse.
• All our windows are tinted helping us reduce our need for air conditioning.
• We use low flow toilets and faucets, and our exterior landscape requires very
little watering.
• We divide all our waste into three onsite trash receptacles: recyclable, organic
and landfill waste.
• Over the years we have greatly reduced our need for paper, by investing in
technology that allows us to do almost all transactions and communications
digitally.
Fleet:
• Starting in 2018 Ventura Pest Control went from driving full size pickup trucks
(Ford F150’s) to much smaller work vans (Nissan NV200’s) and midsize trucks
(Toyota Tacoma’s). As of 11/2022 we have replaced 22 of the 32 vehicles in our
fleet.
• We have invested in vehicle monitoring devices that warn our drivers of unsafe
driving practices such as speed, idling time, and hard braking.
• Two years ago, we invested in mapping software that allows us to route our
vehicles with maximum efficiency as our technicians drive from stop to stop.
• All our vehicles are professionally washed and maintained by off-site
professionals.
• We have plans to start purchasing electrical vehicles when the auto makers
start making vehicles that fit our equipment needs.
All these steps have helped us reduced our fuel consumption, carbon
emissions and overall environmental impact.
Charitable Giving:
Ventura Pest Control regularly gives donations to our local schools, academic and sports teams.
We regularly volunteer and donate funds to the following charitable organizations:
