Today marks 22 years free from active addiction and 6 ½ years of moderating.
I’ve hesitated in sharing this journey too publicly not only because of the stigma around addiction but also moderating after being “in recovery.” I still believe whole-heartedly that my clean date is the same.
My life, relationships, and my spiritual, emotional, mental and physical wellbeing are forever changed but the 15 ½ years I spent abstinent. Nothing and no one can take that away from me.
I worked my fu***ng ass off to get where I am today. I continue to live my life along spiritual lines, accept responsibility for my actions and make amends when I’ve wronged others. I use all the tools I learned when I was abstinent and they impact my life in ways I never would have had otherwise.
I am grateful to everyone who came into my life then and those I’ve met anywhere along my journey who have loved and supported me for who I am.
Words cannot express the gratitude I have for my family who stood by me through it all.
My life is incredible beyond measure and I have freedom from active addiction to thank for it.
