Agency or registry—do you know the difference? 🏡

With a home care agency, caregivers are employees, and the agency oversees the entire care experience—from hiring and training to scheduling, supervision, insurance, and backup coverage.

Registry caregivers are independent contractors. The registry cannot supervise, manage, or train them, and workers’ compensation and liability coverage may depend on the individual caregiver.

💜 Please join us in welcoming Janean Barrows, our new Director of Growth and Innovation, to the Hummingbird Care Services family!

Janean has spent more than 16 years serving seniors, patients, and families throughout Indian River and St. Lucie counties. Her background includes private-duty care, home health, patient onboarding and assessments, and business development. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in American History from Florida Atlantic University.

Beyond her professional experience, Janean has built deep roots throughout our community. She has served on the Walk to Remember committee for 14 of the past 16 years, founded the Silver Circle Advocate networking group, and hosts the Silver Linings Community Podcast on YouTube, iHeartRadio, and other platforms. She has also served on numerous nonprofit boards and led Love Your Neighbor, a volunteer-powered community outreach initiative, for 15 years.

Janean is also launching Lifeline Family Advocacy Group, which will help seniors and their loved ones navigate lifestyle and companionship needs while easing some of the stress carried by family caregivers.

At Hummingbird, Janean will focus on forming new friendships, strengthening community partnerships, and creating meaningful connections that support local seniors and their families.

Outside of work, Janean treasures time with her husband, daughter, extended family, and sweet pup, Lexi. She also enjoys live music, musicals, art museums, and cheering on the Cleveland Browns!
