Major Sargassum beaching events are inevitable around the Caribbean and along the coasts of Florida this summer, estimated to be around 13 million tons. This has the potential to cause significant issues for both marine ecology and local tourism. As belts of seaweed continue to move inland, we encourage businesses and communities on the coast to contact us to develop a plan to mitigate the impact of Sargassum season.

We always appreciate seeing our Containment Boom being used in unique ways. In the photo below, our boom was placed in a research pond used for rearing Salvinia Weevils. As a biological pest control agent, Salvinia Weevils are used against invasive aquatic plants like Giant Salvinia found in reservoirs and waterways.

Meet the Team! Karen brings a decade of direct experience to GEI Works. As General Manager, she facilitates strategic planning and growth, oversees ongoing projects in each department, and the day-to-day operations of our organization. Karen always has a smile and is ready to jump in to help anywhere as needed. We are truly fortunate to have her as a leader for GEI Works.

Karen, how long have you been working at GEI Works?
I have been in the industry since 2012 and come with previous experience in business management, sales, marketing, HR, and various creative endeavors.

What do you like most about working at GEI Works?
A business is only as strong as its people. I think we have the best ones – and I love creating an environment where smart people can do smart things. When people feel valued, they provide value, and have a place to grow. We are privileged to work with, and for, genuinely good, kind, hard-working people of integrity. We laugh together a lot! I’m grateful every day to be here working alongside our team for our customers.

What do you like to do outside of work?
I like to spend time with my family, enjoy time with my teenagers and pets (our silly dog, 3 cats, and a 57” Ball python). I also enjoy painting, writing, and floating in the pool with a good book.
