Our Trainers
Emily Hren: has been riding horses off and on since she could walk. She started with pony rides as a toddler, progressing to lessons as she got older, she often worked at her barns to “pay” for her lessons where she gained invaluable experiences learning the ins and outs of horse care from the ground up. She worked with many different trainers and showed hunters/jumpers and Equitatio
n throughout high school, college, and independently as an adult. Since moving to Texas several years ago she has broadened her riding skills to include basic ranch and western pleasure riding, as well as has begun riding and showing cross country and dressage. Emily is always looking for new riding experiences working with as many horses and people as possible. Emily has started colts and put tune-up time on many horses in her career. She currently teaches beginner - intermediate English lessons. She specializes in instilling safe horse “etiquette” skills both on the ground and mounted, confidence, and patience in her riders and horses. Skye Surman: began riding at the age of 8 and competing in rodeo events in 7th grade. She participated in the Texas Junior high/ High School Rodeo Association for Region 8 finished in the top 10. She participated in local rodeos and excelled in speed events despite not having the “best” or “fanciest” horse around. She worked at horse camps throughout junior high and high school as a consoler, as well as tuning up horses and teaching “little’s lessons” to young children. As an adult, she has worked in a therapy riding center, as a ranch hand, and a vet technician. Miss Skye continues to ride western but has branched out to riding and showing English jumpers and Dressage with Emily, where she has progressed exceedingly quickly in a short time. Miss Skye has recently joined our teaching and training program and has been a wonderful asset. She is a patient and emphatic horsewoman who loves to work with troubled horses that may be difficult for others to work with. She has prepared yearlings for future handling and to be ridden by providing halter training and extensive groundwork, started several horses under saddle, as well as putting tune-ups in both western and English on our lesson horses. She prides herself on keeping up with the latest horse psychology and uses positive reinforcement and reward in her training.
