20 Billion Bottles Recycled in CA

♻️ Did you know Californians recycle over 20 billion bottles every year?

Redeeming your beverage containers keeps them out of our streets, rivers, and oceans, reduces microplastics in our air and water, and conserves the glass and metal needed to make new ones. Every bottle counts for our desert communities and beyond.

It also supports local jobs, strengthens community programs, and contributes to healthier landscapes.

Whether you are using curbside collection, a drop-off location, or composting at home, small daily actions add up to meaningful impact.

Compost is created by recycling organic materials like food scraps and yard waste into a nutrient-rich soil amendment.

In our region, where soils are often dry and low in organic matter, compost plays an important role in improving soil quality, retaining moisture and supporting plant growth.

Instead of sending these materials to landfills, composting returns valuable nutrients back to the earth.

It’s International Compost Awareness Week! All week long, we are highlighting how composting helps feed the soil that feeds us, especially in desert and mountain communities where healthy soil and water conservation really matter.

Whether you compost at home, use a local drop-off site, or have curbside organics service, you are part of the solution.

Got a green cart? Make sure all your food scraps and yard waste end up in it, not the trash.

Want to compost at home? We have tips for that on our website: urecycle.org/composting-at-home

Follow along this week as we explore how composting supports stronger, more resilient communities, one step at a time.

♻️ Curbside Recycling Tip! ♻️

Before tossing food containers in your recycling cart, make sure they’re empty, clean, and dry!

🚫 Leftover food and liquids can contaminate other recyclables, which can send them to the landfill.

♻️ Clean recyclables help create high-quality materials that can be turned into something new!

A quick shake or rinse goes a long way. 💙🌎
