Such a tragic story for this family.

Edna Arlia Peterson Adams and Calvin Emmett Adams lost six babies. Their oldest surviving child, a little girl also named Edna, lived only 13 days.

Edna and all six of their babies are buried together in one lot at Pine Crest. Edna died from complications during the birth of her last child in 1930, and that baby boy is buried with her.

Her parents, Sarah McLemore Peterson and Archibald Peterson, are buried in a nearby plot at Pine Crest.

Emmett later remarried and is buried elsewhere with his second wife.

Pine Crest Cemetery โ€“ Vidalia, Toombs County, GA

Nathan Campbell Napier Jr. (August 10, 1878 โ€“ December 17, 1923) was born in Walker County and later became the editor of the ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜ฅ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ข ๐˜ˆ๐˜ฅ๐˜ท๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ค๐˜ฆ. He passed away at the age of 43 and is laid to rest here in Pine Crest Cemetery.

In 1909, he married Mary Louise Patton Napier (1885โ€“1966), who is buried in Fulton County. Together they had two sons, James and Nathan III.

Sadly, Mr. Napierโ€™s grave is in desperate need of repair. As someone who played an important role in the local community and its history, he deserves to be remembered with dignity.

He was born August 15, 1886 in Monticello, Jasper County. He died in Vidalia Georgia January 8, 1967 at the age of 80.

He married Frances Gay (1892-1980) in 1915.

Dr Mercer practiced medicine in Vidalia for 48 years. He was a very kind and caring person. If you didnโ€™t have money to pay him he would still do everything he could for you.

On April 11, 1937 Dr Mercerโ€™s family came to Vidalia for a day visit. On their way back home they were in a head on collision near Soperton GA. The family was brought back to the Vidalia hospital. Dr Mercer lost his mother, father, a brother and a sister in that wreck.

Buried in the same lot with Dr Mercer and his wife is a daughter, a grandson, and a nephew of theirs.

He also opened up one of the first hospitals in Vidalia with Dr. Gross. It was called the Gross-Mercer hospital. The building is still there on Mosley Street.

Help Us Preserve Their Legacy

Each year, the Wreaths Across America ceremony fills the cemetery with heartfelt remembrance. But after Christmas, many wreaths remain long after the season has passed. We kindly ask families, loved ones, or anyone who feels moved to do so, to return and pick up the wreaths they placed.

Leaving them too long can leave marks on the stones, and we want to preserve the dignity of every veteranโ€™s resting place.
Thank you to the few dedicated community members who help care for our cemetery, you make a difference.

A special thanks to Adam and Stephanie Auman, and Lorraine Horne for collecting this years wreaths.

Frank and Billy Richardson: A Legacy of Work and Community in Vidalia

Frank Richardson was a foreman for the railroad and a welder. His wife was Myrtice, also buried at Pine Crest. His family had gatherings at their home for meals and gospel sings, many people attended.
Frank was the first to make Vidalia sweet onion pickles but later sold the copyright to someone else. He passed away in 1982.

Frankโ€™s son, Billy Richardson, owned and operated The Print Shop in Vidalia. The business was originally located on Donavan Street before moving to the third floor above the PAL Theater. He also owned The Brideโ€™s Corner, a store in Vidalia that sold wedding supplies, including invitations printed at his shop. The Brideโ€™s Corner was located next to The Print Shop on Donavan Street. Billy passed away in 2003.

Frank and Billy Richardson, father and son, are buried together in the same plot at Pine Crest Cemetery.
