I used to believe I knew exactly where my time and energy were going. I was busy, things were moving, and nothing felt broken. When you're in motion all the time, it's easy to assume you're also in control.
Then one day I was standing in a long airport line with nothing to do but wait. No phone call to take, no meeting to run. And in that rare quiet, three questions came to me.
When did I last make a big decision while I was exhausted?
What conversation have I been avoiding?
Where did I say yes when I meant no?
I didn't like my answers. All three had an honest response, and none of them were flattering. It was uncomfortable to realize how many small things I had been carrying without ever looking at them.
But I didn't try to fix everything at once.
I picked the smallest leak and fixed that first. A conversation I had been putting off. It took ten minutes, and the relief was far bigger than the effort. That gave me the momentum to look at the next one.
Now I run those same three questions once a month. It takes about a minute, and it has saved me more time, money, and stress than any app I've ever downloaded.
You don't need a retreat or a consultant to find your first leak. You need a quiet minute and honest answers. Most of the time the leak isn't hidden. We just never stop long enough to look. When did you last give yourself that minute?
Naming a leak is only the first step. Putting a real number on it is what I teach in my Executive Leadership Optimization System.
