The other day I picked up a guy walking on the side of the road with a gas can, walking in the opposite direction of where I knew the closest gas station was.
I looped around and picked him up, took him to the gas station, bought him some gas.
It was significant for me because, just before I saw him I was listening to a sermon by , listening how God was working in his life and I wanted more of that, with in 5 seconds of the prayer I saw this guy.
By the time it was all triggered in my head, I had passed him, and thought well maybe I missed my opportunity to help, but I was like, "no"...I can loop around.
He is a construction worker in his mid-50's, has an 11 year old daughter and lives with his parents who have type 2 diabetes. I found out the gas meter in his van is broken so this happens from time to time.
He shared with me nothing troubling, he just ran out of gas... he was actually quoting the bible and sharing much truth that we both believe.
I asked him if I could pray for him for any reason and he shared he has had an issue with his foot, so I prayed for him with cars wizzing by as we sat on the side of the freeway in my truck.
We talked for a while, he put the gas in his van, then the van wouldn't start, so I jumped it. Later I reached out and asked how is foot was doing and he responded saying, "Thank you for the blessing, what you did for me, it looked like everything was plane, but it was not, but now I am doing much better."
I believe God was reaching out to this guy through me and when he had the opportunity to share about what was really going on, he skirted the issue.
It reminded me how important it is to get really honest and talk to someone if things are "not going ok". We are meant to live life together in a community where we help each other through difficult times, if you don't feel your community does this, it might be time to change your community.
You have more power than you think to change your circumstance, you may just need a little help and thats ok.
