We will be taking a short break from harvest this weekend to pour a few different vintages of our Estate Barbera this Saturday in Folsom! There are still a few tickets available! Also, due to harvest and the event, we will be unable to host any tastings this weekend, but we will be open Labor Day weekend!

It’s mid August, which means the Zinfandel is getting sweet, which also means the locals start showing up to test them for us. While we appreciate the help, none of the bears that have climbed over, under or through our deer fence have ever written down the results of their testing. They’re not gentle with the bird netting or the vines either.

A little update on our tasting area barrel beehive. Ken Fowkes from Sierra Foothill Beekeepers paid us a visit yesterday. He estimates there’s 15-20 thousand bees that have taken over this wine barrel, who have added roughly 60-70 lbs of weight to it. We stapled hardware cloth over the bu****le and were about to load it into his truck but then realized the barrel may not make the two hour journey back to his house since it is very dried out. Plus, carefully unloading a barrel this heavy without tilting it over would be impossible without equipment. He will be back soon and we will carefully disassemble the barrel to remove the hive and transport the bees to his property. Our tasting room is still open, it’s just very buzzy right now.

We’re starting to see some color in the vineyards! This is an exciting time of year for me because it means I only have to spray sulfur in the vineyard one or two more times, which my back is very happy about. Rocky vineyards make for a very bumpy ride.

Taking advantage of the cool, drizzly weather to check in on all of the vines and to burn what we pruned off in March. We didn’t expect to have an opportunity to burn them this year, but also didn’t expect this much rain in late May 😂 We have too many rocks to mulch the prunings, so we have to collect them by hand, drag them into an open area and then burn them when they’re dry enough and the ground is still wet enough.

One of the best parts about being surrounded 700 acres of BLM land is the local wildlife we get to see. Today was a bit unusual though. We have never had a fox, deer, a mountain lion, a black bear and a rattle snake all within 24 hours.

Don’t let this discourage you from visiting 😉

We kindly request all visitors have a reservation and not just show up at the gate. 🐱

We were expecting a drizzle of rain yesterday, but it rained and spit small, soft hail (thankfully) nearly all day. There was no damage to the vines or small clusters, but now this place is muddy and the house smells like wet dog.

Racking some wines before the rain comes in. These two aren’t much help.
