Taking advantage of the cool, drizzly weather to check in on all of the vines and to burn what we pruned off in March. We didn’t expect to have an opportunity to burn them this year, but also didn’t expect this much rain in late May 😂 We have too many rocks to mulch the prunings, so we have to collect them by hand, drag them into an open area and then burn them when they’re dry enough and the ground is still wet enough.

One of the best parts about being surrounded 700 acres of BLM land is the local wildlife we get to see. Today was a bit unusual though. We have never had a fox, deer, a mountain lion, a black bear and a rattle snake all within 24 hours.

Don’t let this discourage you from visiting 😉

We were expecting a drizzle of rain yesterday, but it rained and spit small, soft hail (thankfully) nearly all day. There was no damage to the vines or small clusters, but now this place is muddy and the house smells like wet dog.

Racking some wines before the rain comes in. These two aren’t much help.

Introducing our 2024 Russel Ridge Pinot Noir! Our Russel Ridge label tells the deep, rich history of the land MFV Winery sits on, and is for our non-estate wines. This Pinot Noir is from the Russian River Valley AVA and is clean, balanced and light, perfect for this Spring and Summer. We are very excited for it! It will only be available at our tasting room and on our website for the time being. Come by, meet the dogs and enjoy some delicious wines.

The new assistant branch manager has been very helpful after pruning last week. Our soil is too rocky to mulch them in place, so we bundle up and haul out (nearly) every vine/cane, leaving a few for the dogs to find and chew throughout the season.

Unfortunately, the recent storm brought down several trees on our property and roads. We will be closed this coming weekend to clear trees, brush and mud that has accumulated. Oh boy!

We recently hired our first new employee in nearly a decade, Millie. Her current title is assistant branch manager and she will be working under our current branch manager, Tully, for the foreseeable future. Depending on how tired or bitey she is, she will be on site during tastings and all other vineyard/winery duties.
